BUSES

News as of December 10, 2003

- The pilot bus for the 220 Orion 07.501 buses has arrived and is numbered 7400.  7400 has been seen during the past few weeks as a training vehicle for the the Eglinton operators who will be operating these vehicles when they are placed into service. Recently 48 VII's have been delivered and 60 should be on property by the end of this month.

- With the arrival of the Orion VII's destined for the Eglinton garage, the existing Orion V fleet of lift-equipped buses is slated for reallocation to the Malvern garage in which the Orion V's will replace the D40-90s and Orion 03.501s which are set to be retired or currently retired.

- This summer has brought along with it a big ad campaign which many buses were wrapped for advertisements, the most agressive campaign of them all was the Jack FM which has had more then one bus from every bus division wrapped. This is a list of vehicles that are wrapped and was compiled by Mike Vainchtein.

- 1996 Orion V diesel 7000 has gone through the rebuild program most likely as a prototype for the rest of the 1996 diesel fleet which is due for mid life rebuild in 2004-2005. 7000 runs looking newer much alike the 1991 Orion Vs do as they return from rebuild, so far nothing much has changed other than the rebuild/repair of the powertrain which was found to be better improved after rebuild.

- The temporary bus bays constructed within the former Eglinton Garage are ready to go and await the next board period, once they start to use the temporary bus bays the existing bus bays at Eglinton Station will be torn down for construction of a more modern terminal.

- Lansdowne Garage is being torn down, the site which has housed streetcars, trolley buses and diesel buses is finally torn down despite it being a landmark through its past purpose the TTC could no longer afford to maintain this building.

- The 1991 Orion 05.501 fleet is undergoing the 12 year rebuild program.  Buses that have already gone through the program are out on the streets of Toronto.  These buses are identified by their new coat of paint, white paint over the UWE connectors, and the red plate inside the drivers cab that states that they have gone through the 12 year rebuild program.
