Kanchin

Kanchin is the seventh kata in the Uechi-Ryu system, and the one that most prepares the student for his foray into Sanseiru, the last kata.  It is also the first kata in which the student starts to practice the all-important angle.  Because of the importance of this kata, and the numerous advanced techniques within the form, Kanchin was chosen to be the third-degree black belt (sandan) requirement.   By practicing Kanchin, student will be able to grasp the difficulties of Sanseiru much easier.  For example, other than the already mentioned angles, Kanchin introduces the student to the deep, long drives, complicated hand techniques, and multiple direction changes associated with Sanseiru.
