S.T.A.R. -- Success Through Accepting Responsibility


 

Q: What is S.T.A.R.?
A: A language based program that encourages students to be responsible for their actions. It uses a decision making model that will help our students solve problems and resolve conflicts.

Q: Who developed S.T.A.R.?
A: S.T.A.R. was developed by the Jefferson Center for Education, a non-profit, non-sectarian organization founded in 1963 with the purpose of providing methods for teaching character education in both public and private schools.

Q: What are the components of S.T.A.R.?
 
1) A Theme of the Month is given to kids.
2) Project is reinforced by monthly projects/activities.
3) S.T.A.R. pins are awarded as a symbol of completion each month.
4) Parents MUST sign off on each form.
5) Students MUST ask for and return forms themselves.
6) After a year of successful activities, students will receive an S.T.A.R. patch to permanently put on uniform.

Q: Is there anything else to the S.T.A.R. program?
A:Children are encouraged to bring their report card to school. They will receive an "Academic Excellence" patch to wear proudly on their uniform. Every report card after that will earn them smaller "star" patches.
