Taken from Allen Dollar's book to mean a combination of Sensei Kanbun Uechi
and Shushabu. This kata was created by Seiki Itokazu sensei and approved by
Kanei Uechi sensei in approximately 1956. This kata is the next in sequence
after Kanshiwa. It expands itself from Kanshiwa displaying several techniques
not shown yet to the students. For example, combination techniques and the
moving off the set line are different than what students has been taught
throughout Sanchin and Kanshiwa. This is just a prelude to the next kata, but as
the student will experience, the katas will begin to expand almost immediately.
KANSHU
1. Bow to the front.
2. Open up in the first 8 movements of Sanchin.
3. Perform a left Sanchin arm thrust.
4. Slide forward in a right stance and perform a double haraken strike to face level.
5. Bring hands back to a crossed position in front of your chest and thrust them apart in a breaking motion. Slide forward at and perform a right backfist face level.
6. Step through to a left stance and perform a left middle block followed by a left front kick.
7. Step through to a right stance and perform a right middle block followed by a right front kick.
8. Remain in the right stance and perform a left middle block followed by a right hammer fist to the head, a right middle block followed by left bushiken strike to the head, and a left middle block followed by a right nukite strike to the ribs.
9. Turn 180 degrees into a left stance and perform a right Sanchin arm thrust.
10. Slide forward in a left stance and perform a left middle block followed by a right nukite strike to the ribs.
11. Step forward in a right stance and perform a right middle block followed by a left nukite strike to the ribs.
12. Step forward in a left stance and perform a left middle block followed by a right nukite strike to the ribs.
13. Turn 90 degrees to your left in a left stance and perform a left wa-uke block and strike with both hands.
14. Turn 180 degrees to a right stance and perform a right block and strike with both hands.
15. Turn 90 degrees to the left in a left stance. Step through to a right sth and perform a double high block/strike with haraken fists. Come back to post position when complete.
16. Turn 180 degrees to a left stance and perform a left middle block followed by a left front kick.
17. Drive forward to a right fighting stance and perform a left middle block followed by a right elbow strike, a right backfist, and a right one-knuckle punch to the chest.
18. Come back to a neutral stance with the right hand in sanchin position and the left hand in post position.
19. Put hands by the side, feet together and bow.
