Seiru

Seiru is the sixth kata in the Uechi-Ryu system.  It is also one of the shortest.   Meaning sixteen conflicts, it is only three more essential movements than Seisan.  However, it is one of the softest of the eight kata in my opinion.  The minimal movement of the form suggest redirection rather than confrontation.  This, of course, doesn’t mean the strikes are not hard, or that there is no practice in counter-attacking, there is still all of that and more.

Seiru is one of two advanced kata to help the student to reach and understand Sanseiru.

It is the kata designated for nidan rank, which is second degree black belt; however, it’s complexity resides in it’s compactness and misdirection, not in it’s length.  It does not show practitioners new movement per se; rather, it demonstrates different methods of utilizing techniques already learned.
