D. M. Ingalls
A Half-a-life-or-so in the Arts

     D. M. Ingalls was born in Machias, Maine in 1957.  After an educational and amateur artistic period through the 70's, he began professional work in the arts (particularly in music, visual, and theatre arts) while maintaining brief careers in other fields.  His first companies, SPU and Milo, served as freelance "workshops" dealing in about all areas of music and theatre, and in lesser parts with publishing and other media.  Ingalls, with a partner N. B. Aldrich, provided theatre sound and music (for drama & modern dance), soundtrack settings, concert performances, recordings,

writing, and a variety of experimental arts and research during the period of 1977 - 1991 in Maine, Boston, NH and California.  Indeed, the two continue to collaborate on things as time & space allow.
Currently Mr. Ingalls is finalizing a BA in Interdisciplinary Arts at the University of Maine at Machias while working and studying in the fields of education and the arts.  His enjoyable times in text-setting have resulted in a cd entitled Shakespeare and Me and other work intended for release in 2001 (x: a similar project with another famous poet). His continuing musical enterprise involves theatre and film (particularly with Dr. John Dennis at UMM and Mr. Aldrich of Bennington) & other 'popular' music work; solo or with collaborators like Jeff Shaw, George Skala and Gene Nichols.  The varied work with these three musician/scholars includes Kalliope (also a cd - Altogether Elsewhere), Pascacci (cd - Momentary Musicalistic Interactions) and improvisational explorations with Les Trois Etoiles (limited private editions on cassette & video) - not necessarily popular music...
Ingalls specializes in text-setting and songwriting, crayon, digital imaging & photography, M I D I composition and other Inter-disciplinary Arts (lately more in education). Recent  applications of his "arts in education" include the ArtSmArts Program (workshops at local schools and day-cares, in 1999-2000 as his focus for an AmeriCorp / Vista project) and continuing related work in the UMM
and Downeast community. He is also readying a 2-cd, 10-year instrumental retrospective of selections previously available only on limited-edition cassettes. The pace, atmosphere, folks, and mythical nature of Eastern Maine are far preferable to the arts & culture of the urban centers, D.M. will admit, since he's managed to be a bad artist with few friends in both city and village settings.
