Tell Me
Scott Sherman - 12.11.2002

Your feelings are betrayed by your silence.
Make any excuses you wish,
I will grow tired of them eventually.
Your best way out is just to tell me.

Tell me you're tired
Of listening to my voice
And honoring me with yours.
Tell me you're tired
Of crying on my shoulder;
Dampening me with your tears.
Tell me you're tired
Of having open arms to run toward;
I was always there for you,
Even if we were far apart.

Tell me you're tired of my smile,
And the smiles I brought to your face.
Tell me you're tired of the laughter we shared
Together in innocent bliss.
Tell me you're tired of me on your mind
And having someone whose thoughts you never leave.
I'm sure the memories will leave you easily,
Even if I am never able to forget.

Information About This Piece:
  A friend of mine who has read most, if not all, of my poetry commented on the fact that almost all of my poems as of late have been very upbeat. He told me that he doubted if I had the ability to write in any other emotion. Wanting to prove him wrong and also challenge and improve my own writing skills, I told him to suggest an emotion. He chose "betrayal." Twenty-five minutes later, I gave him the rough draft of "Tell Me."
  A few friends, after reading this poem, thought that it was about a particular person. I assure you, it is not about any one person! It is based on an amalgamation of both actual experiences and fictional events. Please, believe me when I say that it could not possibly be about you or anyone else.
