Young Women Are Made Of:
Scott Sherman - 6.2002

Sugar or spice,
But both are just so nice!
It's the decisions between
Which make life so hard.

I must pick between
The kind and the mean:
One's sweet and one's sassy,
They've caught me off guard!

They're both very classy;
I stare when they pass me.
One's highly seductive,
But the other I love.

I'll be deductive,
Choosing spice is destructive.
Her fire once tempted me,
But I've chosen the dove.

Information About This Piece:
Around the time of my high school graduation in 2002, thoughts related to the psychology of romance filled my mind. One of the most important epiphanies I feel I've had was that of the discovery that lust and love, although easily confused, are completely different. You can tell that this poem was the cause of that discovery by the fact that the tone quickly and smoothly transitions from one of whimsy to one of introspection.
I discovered later on with the unfortunate close of a wonderful relationship that I missed a very important part of the discovery. Love and lust, although completely different, are inseparable. Each must feed off of the other in order for either to last.
