. Castle of Frankenstein began life as a one shot called Journal of Frankenstein, published in 1959 by Calvin T. Beck. The first issue of CoF hit the newsstands in 1962. Besides the current and classic horror films, CoF also covered the comics scene and fantasy fiction and art. Popular features included the Frankenstein TV Movie Guide and Slaymate of the Month. The magazine had a run of 25 issues and a 1967 Yearbook. The final issue came out in 1975. CoF featured many excellent cover paintings from artists like Larry Ivie, Frank Brunner, Ken Kelly, Marcus Boas and others, with color photos on the covers of issues #6 - #14. .
