Liver
"The liver is a primal organ where we store our primal emotions like anger."  - Natural Healing Methods for Women

For years I had elevated liver enzymes.  The Doctors figured that it was due to stress.  I think that sexual abuse had and has a major impact on my stress level.  As a child you are not able to deal with what is going on, and if your attempts at seeking help are fruitless this only exacerbates the amount of stress in your life.

In recent years I have learned that the liver is a delicate organ that relates to the functioning of almost every other aspect of your body.  It can cause you to stop mestruating, to have psychotic episodes, and even to feel like you have the flu.  Damage to your liver can cause huge after effects.  I have also learned that when you are under stress, or if you can not release anger, this impacts your liver and causes damage.

At this stage, I have a few different problems with my liver.  These are non-alcoholic Cirrhosis and Autoimmune Hepatitis.  Because of these problems, I have been told by my doctor that at my very best when I feel the best I could possibly feel, I will be at about 90% of what an average person feels like on a normal day.  The other frightening statistic that I have to live with is that with the problems I have, your life expectancy is decreased.  I have read some that give you 10 years (I am estimated at 5 years into the disease) without medication.  The last medication I took did not work for me so we are trying new things.  I have decided that I am going to live to be about 70 though and I think I just might do it.

Impacts Non-alcoholic Cirrhosis
Cirrhosis, also called fibrosis, occurs when the liver is inflamed for several years.  It is basically the scaring of the liver due to damage.  The scar tissue replaces the healthy liver tissue and causes the liver to function improperly.  This tissue can cause bile blockage where bile leaks into the bloodstream and can cause blood pressure problems.  Often Cirrhosis is caused by alcohol consumption.  In my case the Cirrhosis is cause by Autoimmune Hepatitis.

Autoimmune Hepatitis
Autoimmune Hepatitis is not the hepatitis that you hear about and is not caught.  There is little known about its causes and the drugs that are used are still fairly experimental.  They do know that it causes damage to the body's organs.  The immune system can not differentiate between health and unhealthy cells.  This means that the immune system attacks the body's own organs and damages them.  In my case this damage has been focused around the liver, but may be related or contribute to other problems I have.  Because the immune system is always fighting against itself and the body, it is constantly working.  It is then weakened and fighting off foreign cells (diseases, colds...) and fighting infection is difficult.
