Cephesus was the mythical king of Ethiopia. He was married to cassiopeia who was an awfully vain person. Her pride caused poseidon to send a sea monster called Cetus to attack Cephesus' kingdom. Cephesus was instructed by an oracle to chain his daughter, Andromeda to a rock as an offering to Cetus. Andromeda was saved by Perseus the one who slayed Medusa. He saved Andromeda by showing the monster the head of Medusa. Cetus immediately turned to stone. Perseus demanded to Cephesus that Andromeda is to become his bride. Cephesus agreed and they held a big banquet. King Cephesus held the wedding at his castle. However, Andromeda has already been promised to another suitor. His name is Phineus, and he is brother to Cephesus. During the wedding, a battle broke loose. Cephesus retired from the battle and left Perseus to defend himself. In the end, Perseus showed Phineus' army the head of Medusa and turned all of Andromeda's betrothed, Phineus, to stone. |
