When Cassopeia, Queen of Ethiopia, boasts about her and her daughter's beauty, Cassiopeia gets into major trouble. She boast that she was more beutiful than the sea nymphs or sea goddesses. They were so enraged that the goddesses sent cetus the sea monster to attack Cephesus, the King of Ethiopia's kingdom. Cephesus was told by the Oracle of Ammon to chain her daughter to a rock as a sacrafice. Cetus was visualized by the Greeks as having enormous jaws. The forefeet of a land animals and a scaly body with huge coils like a sea serpent. Cetus looks nothing like a whale eventhough cetus is sometimes called one. |
