Gilman's Gazette has a specific journalistic task in mind for your team. You are to create your own newspaper involving all members of your team working together. This will involve each of you taking on a different role and working cooperatively in order to develop the finished product. Step One: After reading "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, your team will put together a newspaper as if you are living in the late 1800s or early 1900s. At least four types of articles must be included from the list below. A total of eight entries will need to appear in your finished product. Articles will include areas of interest with regards to the story, as well as the issues in the late 1800s or early 1900s. Step Two: The type of information you will research individually depends upon what your role is: Layout/Designer, Reporter #1, Reporter #2 or Reporter #3. Information regarding these roles can be found on the Process Page. Each individual will also be responsible for filling out his/her section on the Cooperative Contract, as well as completing the creative writing activities along the way. A Role Chart for each team member will also need completed and turned in to the editor. Note: The editor will be able to assist you with proof reading or arranging of your paper. He/she will also be able to answer questions or help your team along the way, should the need arise. Step Three: At the end of the process, your team will need to present your finished project to the editor and the community of newspaper employees. This presentation will also be considered in the final evaluation of your success. |

Creative Writing Activities: Our newspaper staff is interested in how you are benefiting from the research that you are doing. Therefore, each team member is responsible for doing one of these activities along the way. These activities may also be used in the publication of your product (creative writing pieces are a type of article). Upon completion of this WebQuest, your team of applicants will have: 1. Worked collaboratively in order to produce an edition of Gilman's Gazette which accurately reflects the time period in which "The Yellow Wallpaper" was written. 2. Gained an understanding of the late 1800s and early 1900s with regards to lifestyles, medicine and the role of women in society. 3. Aquired a thorough understanding of "The Yellow Wallpaper," why it was written, as well as information regarding the author. |
