Includes over 173 entries of monsters, fairies, spirits, undead, humanoid races, fictional animals, etc..

Only 70 of the monsters are ones I made up. There are 3 entries of things which are known to be real (human, black cat, and giant squid)
and a couple others which might be real.

About 66 Authentic monster entries.
(Authentic meaning from stories, legends, folktales or myths from before the 20th century)

I made this because at the time I started it, it was very hard to find a dictionary of monsters which accually had more than a few of the creatures I was trying to look up. That was over two years ago, and now it's easier to find that kind of information (like on Wikipedia) but I hope you'll still find my monster dictionary useful and/or entertaining. A lot of the monsters I made up appear in one or more of my three novels, but none of them are published (yet). Besides 'authentic' monsters or creatures I made up, there are monsters from computer games (largely Nethack and similar games), newer stories (like The Lord of the Rings), or more recent legends/folk stories. My Links Page has links to some of the internet sources used in making the dictionary. Feel free to email me from my main page with suggested additions, corrections, or better sources.
8/25/06 Added four monsters: Catoblepas, Leucrocotta, Orpiphus, and Tarrasque, and expanded entries for Basilisk and Cyclops.
2/5/08: tweaked a few entries, corrected a few typos, and removed one of the monsters I made up.
