An Unifying Approach to Consciousness and Matter

BACKGROUND AND UNDERLYING PREMISES

Unification of Knowledge

An understanding of the nature of our enfolding universe clarifies many previous inconsistencies in scientific theories. Along with the postulates and working hypotheses that have superior predictive and explanatory ramifications over those of other theories, the discoveries of synchronous folds, and the recognition of the Enfolding Universe,

(1) achieves the unification of previously unexplained phenomena,

(2) recognizes light as an active force instead of as radiant energy,

(3) determines how man might further his control over matter from working with and not against the nature of matter,

(4) and overcomes chaotic misunderstandings and assumptions concerning the phenomena of our universe of consciousness and matter

.

The enfolding universe distinguishes between units of manifestations that have the capacity to develop self-awareness and those that lack the capacity to develop self-awareness. The recognition of the enfolding universe incorporates premises arising from intuition, and these premises serve as the presuppositions from which the underlying postulates and workng hypotheses are derived and which, in turn, has led to significant discoveries concerning the nature of matter and consciousness. The postulates and working hypotheses are formulations that serve as the bases for the enfoldng universe from which established phenomena may be derived and explained. Its premises are intuitive presuppositions that underlie the Theory`s postulates, working hypotheses, and its discoveries that have great explanatory power and that extend far beyond the postulates and working hypotheses upon which the Enfolding Universe is based and leads to the recognition and acceptance of the enfolding universe with its synchronous folds.

UNDERLYING PREMISES

Consciousness As Primary

The enfolding of force and form is the foundation of the enfolding universe. The enfolding universe presupposes that consciousness, after it arises from the enfolding of force with form, is primary and that consciousness gives rise to energy, which in turn gives rise to matter or mass. Thus, both consciousness and matter arises from the synchronous enfolding of force and form.

Three Different Premises as to Consciousness and Matter

Consciousness and matter have been explained by often unverbalized presuppositions based upon one of the following three premises:

(1) Matter or mass is primary and that form and consciousness are derivative;

(2) Matter and consciousness are both primary, and they coexist together in ways usually not explained; and

(3) Consciousness or thought or mind is primary and energy and matter are derivative

.

The third premise has all the explanatory compass of either the first or second premise and is capable of explaining and describing much phenomena that cannot be explained and described by either the first or second premise. Matter as primary approach assumes that time, space, and motion give rise to force and form and fails to recognize that it is the enfolding of force and form that gives rise to time, space, and motion. Under the second approach, there is the unverbalized assumption that time, space, motion, force, and form are all primary, with time, space, and motion underlying matter and with force and form somehow underlying the interplay of time, space and motion in ways not understood. It is only the third approach that recognizes that it is the enfolding of the force and form as primaries that give rise to matter.

Infinite Dimensions of Synchronous Folds

Synchronous folds necessarily have infinite dimensions, even though they are not in motion nor do they reside in time and space. They exist in the "eternal now" of the enfolding universe and need the synchronous reference system to relate the various manifestation of the enfolding universe one to the other. The infinity of time, space, and motion is derivative from the infinite dimensions of synchronous folds, with the infinite dimensions of synchronous folds being the bases of the infinite divisibility of time, space, and motion.

Consciousnss Manifested in Two Ways

Consciousess in evolution is manifested in two different ways:

(1) That which results from the enfolding of force and form, which result in the matter that serve as the building blocks of our material world; and

(2) The capacity of bulding blocks entering into relationships with units of manifestation that have the capacity through evolutionary processes of achieving self-awareness, the capacity of consciousness becoming aware of itself and particpating knowingly in its own evolution

.

Balance Among Centripetal and Centrifugal Forces

Units of manifestation based upon a stable equilibrium and even balance among centrifugal and centripetal forces become frozen in time and space. and gives rise to matter, time, space, and motion. These photons or unitons thereafter may enter into more evolved units of manifestation as building blocks used by units of manifestation unfrozen in time and space. The postulate that any point might serve as a point of origination or extinction would still apply to them. If the location of the uniton serves as a point of extinction, the uniton is necessarily extinguihed and ceases to exist. If the location of the uniton serves as a point of origination, the uniton would then have the capacity to enter into a new unit of manifestation since the origination of matter at its point of location unfreezes the uniton. An uniton is formed only when the same point serve as a point of origination and extinction. It is this dual service of the point that gives rise to space-time.

Centrifugal and Centripetal Unitons

There are two types of photons or unitons. One type moves towards a point of extinction and the other type moves from a point of origination. Movements from these points are movement of matter in time and space and must not be confused, as they often are, with centripetal and centrifugal forces, which do not involve matter in motion in time and space, even though these forces may give tise to matter, and time and space.

Uneven Balance Leads to Self-Awareness

Units of manifestation capable of achieving self-awareness have an odd number of contrasting component parts, which is to say that they lack a stable equilibrium or even balance between their contrasting, component parts. These units are unfrozen in time and space, with the impetus to form mergers with other units of manifestation. Man is an unfrozen unit of manifestation, with the capacity to enter into many diverse and various relationships.

Infinite Dimensions of Consciousness

The enfolding universe presupposes that conconsciousness has infinite dimensions, resulting in the infinite divisibility of micocosmic phenomena and an infinite sequence of patterns of organizations of macrocosmic phenomena. This premise is not original to the discovery of the enfolding universe, and the mathematician Pascal assumed in his thinking the infinite divisibility of matter.

Importance of Motion

Although motion does not give rise to time and space, it is important in understanding the behavior of metter in time and space. Other thinkers have stressed the importance of motion in understanding phenomena. For example, Dewey B. Larson, bases his theory of motion on time and space being reciprocal aspects of motion. In the Larsonian system, however matter is apparently only finitely divisible, with matter made up of discrete units of time and space as reciprocal aspects of motion. In the enfolding universe, what is being enfolded is not motion but is force and form that gives rise to motion, time, and space. The enfolding universe, moreover, incorporates features of motion ignored by Larson as well as features ignored by Newton and Einstein.

Newton`s Concept of Time, Space and Motion

Newton assumed that time, space and motion were absolutes and did not treat them as relative to one another and did not treat time and space as reciprocal aspects of motion in the Larsonian sense. There is no doubt that he treated them as absolute in order to set forth an explanatory basis of his mathematical equations. He must have known that they were relative one to the other but the assumption of their absolute natures was essential to explain his mathematics. Thus, he departed from common sense for explanatory purposes. Newton was not really a Newtonian and many of his followers treat Newton`s explanatory assumptions as if there were absolute truths. Newton would have known better than that.

Significance of Motion Ignored by Einstein

Einstein used geometry as the basis for relativity and ignored the significance of motion as the expression of time and space. Time, space, and motion result from the enfolding of force with form and this enfolding necessarily does not involve time, space, and motion. He failed to recognize that motion, depending upon the point of observation, is infinitely divisible in space-time units that one observer would treat as frequency and another observer as velocity. He apparently believed it was necessary to use the Cartesian reference system, not readily adaptable to his theories, with the Cartesian coordinates becoming covariant as to arbitary, continuous transformation of the coordinates.

Infinite Divisibilty of Motion

Motion is necessarily infinitely divisible under the enfolding universe, and units of manifestation of motion, termed unitons (click here for discussion)under the Unified Theory, are necessarily a part of an infinite series of unitons moving from the microcosm to the macrocosm and moving from the macrocosm to the microcosm. Not only is there an infinite sequence of unitons but there is also an eternal two directional flow of unitons into and out of our obserable universe, which is termed a segue that is a part of the enfolding universe. The Unified Theory has discovered the essential significance of centripetal and centrifugal forces. The theory may use any of the four different reference systems, including its own version of the progressive reference system. The other version of the progressive reference system is that used by Dewey Larson in his treatment of time and space as reciprocal aspects of each other. Under the Cartesian and the Unified Theory`s version of the progressive reference system, matter in motion and in time and space may go to horizon points of extinction or origination, a horizon point being the border between our segue as an observable universe and another segue or universe.

Motions Toward Origination and Extinction

From the point of view of our segue, under either the Cartesian or or recessional reference system (for a discussion of the four references systems click here), matter is constantly entering and departing, which is to say that matter is constantly being originated and extinguished within the enfolding universe. The enfolding leads to the manifestation of matter that moves with equal probability towards either a microcosmic or a macrocosmic horizon. The velocity of revovling matter going towards a point of extinction increases as the distance from the micorcosmic horizon decreases, and the velocity of revolving matter going from a point of origination to the macrocosmic horizon increases as distance from that horizon decreases.

Equal Probability that Matters Goes to Either a Macrocosmic or a Microcosmic Horizon

In our segue, matter is going towards, or falls towards, a point of extinction or to what is usually referred to as a black hole. In other seques, matter might move towards, a falls towards, a point of origination. In spiral galaxies the movement is to the centripetal horizon and in elliptical galaxies the movement is to the centrifugal horizon. In the example used by Einstein to show the eqivalency of gravity and acceleration of an elevator`s moving upward into space: a man releases a book and the books falls to the floor because the floor is be moving towards the book. In our segue, which is spiral in nature, the book falls to the floor. In an elliptical seque the released book would fall to the ceiling of the elevator and not to the floor. In segues either macrocosmic or microcosmic to our segue, the book would fall to the ceiling.

Biological Evolution Within the Enfolding Universe

Within the enfolding universe biological evolution is a derivative feature. The impetus of evolutionary change is the centrifugal force resulting from the origination of outonic unitons in our segue, engorging so to speak existng forms of biological life with recently originating unitons, leading to what is construed by our scientists as genetic mutations. All unitons, whether construed by us as organic or inorganic matter, are a part of an infinite series of unitons. At the same time, the universe is constantly being enfolded and unfolded. The enfoldment and unfoldment is synchronous and indepentent of time and space. Thus, biological life as well as inorganic matter is infinitely divisible, with dimensions of consciousness being identified in one segue as biological life and in another segue as inorganic matter. For this reason, change in both inorganic matter and in biological life forms is a result of the origination of unitons in our segue.
