ThunderWolf's Den Save the Rain-Forest ! In doing all this research on the effects of saving the Rain-forests, one reason in particular hit me like a ton of bricks -- the cure for cancer of all types. There have been over 2,000 species of plants identified with anti-cancer properties. Scientists have only tested 1 in 10 tropical forest plants, that leaves about 18,000 different species not even tested yet. Imagine if the one plant that could help cure all forms of cancer is one of those species that scientists haven't looked at yet --
Maybe you're thinking "Impossible!" Well, it's not that impossible really. In 1987, researchers found a tree compound from the Malaysian rain-forest that was 100% effective against the HIV-1 virus - 100% effective! Unfortunately, scientists were never able to find that tree again. I think, if for no other reason, this fact alone is enough to try and save as much of the rain-forests as we can. If that's not enough, there are some pictures below (taken from the Care2 site) of some of the animals and plants that are part of the rain-forests that are being destroyed. I'm hoping these will pull at your heart-strings a little and get you to help us save the rain-forests. ![]()
Hopefully you've already decided to help save the Rain-forests so necessary to the survival of so many species - including human beings. If you have click on the eyes to see what you can do to help save the Rain-forests. ![]() ![]() Some of the medicines that are derived from plants in the tropical Rainforests include:
![]() Did you know that North America's Pacific Northwest coast once held the earth's largest single temperate Rain-forest? It spanned the coast for 3,000 miles - from California's Redwoods to Alaska's Sitka Spruce. ![]() Tropical rainforests provide a natural defense against hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons. However, as rain-forests are cut down, tropical storms kill at least 20,000 each year and cause $8 billion in damage! My better judgment made me take it off due to their funding of cruel and inhumane animal testing. While I applaud the progress they've made and the children they've saved, there are much kinder and cost-effective ways of researching cures for cancer.
