Forget the comic house. Those days are long gone. The comedy action this week took place at The Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas! Jay took the stage to what would be the first of several standing ovations and explained the competition and voting. Comics were allowed five minutes per set and phone and online voting would commence immediately following the show. Jay also commented on how pleasant the staff was at The Paris Hotel. He said, "Everyone is so nice, there's no way they're French."
Ralphie made a big impression (pun intended) with his edgy set. First he thanked NBC for getting him to Las Vegas…in July…when it's 120 degrees in the shade. He said if he walked outside wearing black he'd explode. Most of his five minutes were spent ranting on the "War for Oil" and how he's sick of all the protests against it. "Gimme my cheap gas!" Ralphie was pissed at the terrorists, saying, "Do you know how long it takes me to put my shoes back on at the airport? I'm sick of it!" The crowd chanted Ralphie as he left the stage to make way for Dat Phan. Dat had come a long way from sleeping under a desk and performed his trademark set with high energy. He talked about his mom (with requisite impersonations), Vietnam, West Hollywood and dating.
Comedy diva Tess was next and felt she was a winner just by being in the final five. She said Vegas always reminded her of the days when she worked at "Big Girl Strip" under the stage name "Tub of Love." She left the crowd laughing and made way for "The Don," Rich Vos. Rich started by asking the crowd to "Give a big hand to all of my opening acts." His Vegas-themed bits drew big laughs, as did his jokes about being a divorced father. Cory came out next to close out the show. She seemed totally relaxed and at home on stage. The "mother" of the comic house drew laughs with her jokes about being the mother of a teenager. She also joked about being a comedian, saying, "I love being a comedian. I love the hours. I just started and [checked her watch] I'm almost done." Then she talked about everything from Eminem to thong underwear.
The evening ended with all five comics on stage with Jay as he encouraged viewers to phone in or log on to vote. Tune in next Tuesday to find out who America decided was the funniest! |
