Another
problem we encounter is when the hands are not in synchronization with
the chimes. This can be caused in one of three ways: 1. The hour hand is a friction fit and is pushed down onto a tapered shaft. It is often inadvertently moved during winding. to fix this problem simply turn the hand gently back to the right time. As you do this apply a light downward pressure on the hand near the center post to keep it from wanting to ride up and off the tapered hour wheel post. 2. The minute hand is out of Sync. It may be that some one fixed the clock and simply put the minute hand on wrong. We see this occasionally. On most clocks there is a round nut screwed onto the center post that holds the hand in place. Unscrew the nut, pull the minute hand straight out and off the post. Note the square hole in the hand. Turn the hand to the right position so that it is in sync with the chimes and put it back on and secure with the nut. tighten the nut medium firm so it won't work loose but a little care must be taken here. Too firmly tightened and the brass threads will strip out in the nut. 3. Problem! You reset the minute hand and in a few days it is out of sync with the chimes again. This is a common problem. It is caused when the hub or center part of the hand comes loose and lets the minute hand turn without turning the minute hand post or visa versa. The fix is this. Remove the hand as previously explained. Use a small screw driver blade that will fit snugly diagonally across the square hole in the minute hand hub. Now turn the hand without letting the screw driver blade and the hub in the hands center turn. Set the position of the hand so that when placed back on the minute hand post on the clock it will be in sync with the chimes. Now the next steps are very important. Make certain everything is right. With the hand off the clock put a small amount of super glue into the sliding surfaces of the hand and the hands hub. Make absolutely certain that the hand is not on the clock when you apply the super glue or you will have a real problem on you hands, no pun intended. If you apply the glue with the hand on the clock bad things will happen! The hand will be glued to the post and even worse super glue will get inside the post and glue the minute hand post to the hour hand post together so neither will be able to turn. After you are absolutely certain the super glue has cured and is no longer wet. replace the hand and secure with the nut.
