Known as the nine man metal mutant army Slipknot have been one of metal's acts. Each of the nine members wear different masks and and are one of the top stage acts ever to be seen. Hailing from Des Moines, Iowa the largest group in metal formed in 1995. Des Moines, as you may re-call was the place where Ozzy Osbourne bit the head off of a bat while drunk on stage. Vocalist Corey Taylor left his original group Stone Sour which was launched in 1993 with guitarist Jim Root. In 1997 Slipknot released thier album "Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat." The aggressive album got the band some bigger label contracts. "Slipknot" was the second release and came out in 2000. The single "Wait And Bleed" hit airwaves and Slipknot took off. The album topped the Billboard Heatseekers chart and went platinum. The band got to preform "Wait And Bleed" on the Conan O'Brian Show and it picked up massive MTV and metal radio rotation. Slipknot picked up a Best Metal Prefomance nomination at the grammys. Slipknot then entered the studio to record thier second major label record. It was also announced Joey Jordinson and Taylor would be doing some side-projects. But before hitting the studio Slipknot took part in Ozz-Fest. Black Sabbath, Papa Roach, Crazy Town, Disturbed, Godhead, Linkin Park were some of the others that played. Almost a day after Ozz-Fest Slipknot announced they would be on the Pledge Of Alliegnce Tour iwth Mudvayne, System Of A Down, American Head-Charge, Rammstien and No One. The album "Iowa" was recieving huge talk before it's release. The album debuted at #3 on Billboard Top 200 in the U.s. and debuted at #1 in Canada. The first single was "Left Behind." David Meyers (Creed, Papa Roach, Kid Rock, Outkast) directed "Left Behind." The song picked up massive MTV, Muchmusic, and radio airplay. "Iowa's" second single was "My Plague." The song was a remixed version done by Terry Date. He has remixed stuff for the Deftones, and Limp Bizkit. The song was the ifrst single from the "Resident Evil" soundtrack which is a ovie based on a popular video game. Slipknot remixed Marylin Manson's "The Fight Song" for the soundtrack as well. Mudvyane, Rammstien, Saliva, Static-X, Coal Chamber, Adema, Ill Nino, Fear Factory, Crystal Method, Method Man, Depeche Mode, and Five Pionte O also appear on the soundtrack. The video was mainly live, and has clips of "Resident Evil" in it. The video was nominated for a Grammy and was up against P.O.D., KoRn, Rob Zombie, and Corey's own Stone Sour. Slipknot went quiet after that. Joey and Corey's side projects were ready to go. Corey re-joined Stone Sour with Jim Root. The band released the huge hit "Bother" which is a radio-friendly light rock song that was massive on rock charts. "Get Inside" was also a hit on metal radio. Joey's band the Murderdolls also was big. The Murderdolls originally had Trip Eisen on guitar but he quit to join his normal group Static-X. Dope's Acey Slade replaced him. The enjoyed success with thier hit "Dead In Hollywood" which a cameo by Marylin Manson in the video. Bassist Paul Grey did a side-project with American Head Charge's frontman Martin Cock, and guitarist Chad Hanks. The band was called F.O.R. While the Murderdolls, and Stone Sour were topping charts Slipknot released the live video for "The Heretic Anthem" It hit only LAUNCH and other online music servers. The video did very well on charts online. Around this time there was buzz about Slipknot breaking up. In an interview Corey Taylor said they would split up to do thier side-projects. But on a statement on Slipknot's offical site Corey said they were not breaking up and were going to start recording after the Murderdolls, and Stone Sour stop touring. Both side projects the members were unmasked in. Slipknot have a DVD out called "Disasterpeices" named after one of "Iowa's" songs. The DVD has behind the sceanes footage, video, live preformences, and more on it. Shock-rockers Mudvayne may look like they have lots in common with Slipknot and they do.
