History: Marian discovered her powers at the age of 13. She believed her parents were supportive of her new found abilities, but she also felt somehow responsible for their divorce two years later. About that time, when she was 15, she received a letter from Professor Xavier inviting her to come study at his School for Gifted Youngsters. Wanting no longer to be a burden to her family, she accepted and began her studies with him and his fledgling X-Men. While at the Institute, she learned how to control her powers.
She later left Xavier's to attend college as a pre-med student to better understand human physiology and thus help her learn how to best apply her abilities. However, she never completed her degree and her teachers still wonder why she did not continue on to medical school. Marian felt that she could be a better asset to the X-Men and so returned, lending her talents wherever she could. And it wasn't long upon her return that she met and fell in love with Kurt Wagner. A sweeping romance ensued that soon had them married in Las Vegas.
But not all was picture perfect as Marian would discover. For one, she was having trouble getting pregnant due to her powers that would treat the fetus as an invading foreign body and expell it. In order to short circuit her powers, she tricked Rogue into syphoning off enough of her powers to give the fetus time to emplant within her womb. Marian conceived successfully after that but went through a difficult pregnancy which resulted in the birth of daughter Heidi. However, it was Heidi herself who had to use her own powers to enter the world due to complications with Marian's powers.
During her pregnancy, Nightcrawler had a fling with Shadowcat which hurt Marian deeply. But being the strong willed individual she is, Marian refused to give up on her family and set about with her husband to make amends. And just as things seemed to be progessing well, Heidi was abducted shortly after her birth, along with several other babies by Spiral. This forced Marian and Kurt to forget about themselves and bond together in order to get their daughter back.
When they finally got Heidi back, roughly two days later, she was a young adult having been reared in another dimension. Although Marain felt robbed of not being allowed to raise her own child, she was undaunted in getting to know the young woman. And once again, just as things seemed to be going smoothly, Marian unwittingly discovered two of Sinister's operatives while infiltrating the X-Mansion to unleash the Legacy Virus. Marian was subsequently captured and taken back to the Savage Land where she was brainwashed into believing that not only is she a Marauder but Magneto's wife as well.
Haunted by reoccuring nightmates, Marian's mind began pieceing back together her true life. She eventually escaped the man she believed to be her husband and returned to the X-Men. All her memories came flooding back to her and she's once again where she belongs. |
