Mutant X Episode Guide 1-6 |
The Shock Of The New Season One, Episode One Plot: Ordinary shop assistant, girl-next-door Emma DeLauro is pursued by armed thugs one night and rescued by a mysterious super-powered team. Both sides claim that Emma is a New Mutant, but who can she trust? Meanwhile, thief Brennan Mulwray is preparing for his biggest job ever, and GenomeX is undergoing some changes... Good points: An episode which manages to be fast-paced, despite all the characters and plot threads that have to be introduced. Tom gets a lot of screen time, adding depth to his character which is missing from most other episodes. The scenes between him and his henchman Doug O'Keeffe are among the best in the episode. Bad points: The New Mutants, with the exception of Brennan, are very thinly drawn, with Jesse in particular having little to do. |
I Scream The Body Electric Season One, Episode Two Plot: Brennan has been captured by the GSA, leading to the capture of many more New Mutants. The Mutant X team, and a doubting Emma, must break into Eckhart's stronghold. Good points: An absolutely stunning confrontation between Eckhart and Adam - watch the sparks fly. Bad points: The final break-in at GenomeX seems a little too easy. Can absolutely no GS Agents shoot straight? |
Russian Roulette Season One, Episode Three Plot: Brennan is zapped by a new super-weapon designed to neutralise New Mutant powers. Adam needs the weapon to save Brennan's life; Eckhart wants it to combat Mutant X; unfortunately it's in the hands of some very incompetent Russians. Good points: Jesse gets something to do. Bad points: Enough with the stereotypical Russian mercenaries already! |
Fool For Love Season One, Episode Four Plot: Shalimar begins a relationship with another feral, who is planning to undergo treatments which will make him a normal human, and begins to question her own mutancy. Good points: Again, good character development for Shalimar, setting her tone for the rest of the season. Bad points: Unspeakably boring. |
Kilohertz Season One, Episode Five Plot: A New Mutant terrorist with electrical capabilities keeps giving the city power cuts and doing other really annoying stuff like interrupting TV signals. Oh, and wants to work for the GSA. Good points: An interesting concept, and the first New Mutant threat from outside the GSA. Bad points: Kilohertz is probably the least scary terrorist threat in the world. |
Meaning Of Death Season One, Episode Six Plot: A virus springs up which affects only New Mutants. The GSA and Adam strike up an uneasy truce to try and find a cure before half the cast die off. Good points: The first truly good episode since the pilots, as Eckhart and Adam get to mutter darkly in each other's general direction. Also a very well played guest mutant of the week, who I'd have liked to stick around longer. Bad points: Although there are mutants dropping dead all over the place, nothing very awful seems to happen to the MXers. |
