Wednesday, July 7, Day Four

Woke up early again, 6ish EST. About 8, I retrieved two small cups from the kitchenette cabinets, dropping one of the saucers on my left foot, as I wasn't paying attention, and the saucers were stuck to the upside down cups. OUCH! I hobbled down to Nancy and Cathy's room for my coffee invitation, quickly made my coffee (with sugar generously donated by Marty & Sue), and returned back to my room, thus avoiding the hustling out. Mmmm, coffee in the morning is good!

I made my way to the dive boats at the usual time, and today Chris had decided to take a day off, so I buddied up with Cathy and Nancy. Lonnie, not surprisingly, was not feeling all that chipper. After our two dives, back to the hotel restaurant for lunch of more spaghetti, a shower, and then a walk downtown with Chris and Penne to the Turks and Caicos National Museum. When we got there, the power was out (ie, the A/C), so we were invited to sit up on the second floor deck. Here we watched 4 of our party go by on scooters enroute to the lighthouse, and the museum director came out for a bit to chat with us. The power came back on, giving us 30 minutes to watch the film on the Molasses Reef Shipwreck and then peruse the museum itself. We each also bought some handmade items to bring home with us (I have a BIG mug which I broke the handle to at the Grand Turk airport! Gah! Yay superglue).

Back to the hotel for some beach time, shower, sunset and then to dinner at The Water's Edge. The staff must have been out of sorts that night, because it took over 90 minutes to get our order, as apparently, they had to serve all the other tables first (and yes, all but one table arrived AFTER us). Lonnie not only got his dinner cold, but he never did receive his entire order. I had chicken bites (some cooked perfect, some not) with a salad. I was going to order dessert, but not after 2 hours! Not only that, but we got served just before the night divers returned, and then they didn't return from dinner for nearly another 2 hours.

Our divemaster Ty is a member of 'Mitch and the Highland Band', so after dinner, Lonnie, Chris, Marty and I, and later Donna and Lloyd, went to the hotel bar to see and hear them play. Even Tim was there! The story as I was told by Joanne from Chicago, a dive master that had some throat and ear issues while we were there (well, she's a story in herself), the original singer of the Highland Band is a professional recording artist, and she speculated he was off recording, so the band was playing with Mitch. By general consensus we all liked their original stuff much better than their playing of popular songs. Rumor has it that Mitch has another cd coming out, but I'm not sure if it includes the Highland Band or not. Mitch is the lead singer and guitarist, Ty plays the marakas and the tamborine and sometimes the bongos, Ty's brother is the main bongo guy, and there's a fourth who plays a saw with a screwdriver. The whole band is scheduled to be in Houston for the October DEMA convention, followed by a trip to Austin (they're looking for a gig), Iowa and finally Nashville.

Marty kindly brought us all bite sized snickers and 3 musketeers for the event, as we stayed until the band finished their sets and then some jamming, bongos by Ty, and a guest singer. I also had the um, honor, of being asked to dance (er, hit on) twice, by the same guy ("conrad"), who thought I should try his native dance moves (I don't think so), who told me I should meet his "friends" (again, don't think so), and who wanted to spend some one-on-one time (I bet!!!... don't F*CKING think so), and was very put out when Marty (finally!) came to my aid trying to shoo him off. After the party was over, Marty walked me back to my building (thank you!), and I stayed up a little to read. This was one of my two late nights, not getting to sleep until about 1am. Good thing Cassandra can sleep through anything!
