Friday, July 9, Day Six

Woke up early again, 6ish EST. !! About 8, I made my way to The Courtyard Cafe for my morning coffee, got ready for diving, and then to the boats. Chris took this day off, too, so I just followed Ty around for the duration of the dive. A request was made to return to see Alexander, Arthur and Pretty Boy, the ever friendly groupers; funny that Arthur bit Lonnie while being fed cookies. Other than that these dives were the usual calm and relaxing.

That afternoon, I went on the Gibbs Cay excursion. We piled on two boats, stopped just off the island to free dive for conch (pronounced "conk") of which I did not partake as I left my snorkel gear on the other boat. At Gibbs Cay, Mackay cooked burgers and hot dogs while we played with the sting rays and Warren successfully fished for the barracuda stalking the sting ray food. Lunch also consisted of doritos, cheese puffs and pringles, with rum punch and a selection of sodas for beverages. Later, Ty opened the conchs for the conch salad, showing us the difference between males and females, and explaining how they mate (apparently they also have threesomes!). Several of us selected a conch shell (or two) and cleaned it up with a huckster (ie, dried fan) for a souvenir to take home. Some even saw a shark a little ways out, and went snorkeling after it.

Back to the hotel for a shower, a sunset and then another BBQ dinner with peach pie a la mode for dessert. After dinner, being our last night, several of us walked over to the Salt Rakers Inn, as Mitch and the Highland Band were playing there, for a couple of hours of drinking and dancing. When Mitch finished singing and the band finished jamming, slowly we each left and walked back to the hotel. As usual, I was the last to go, talking to the german waitress about the state of things in germany and switzerland, until Ty, Malcolm and Sean with his date came over, for some late night chatting prior to their excursion to "Nookie Hill", an island hangout and what sounded like dive bar.

I declined the Nookie Hill invitation, received a goodbye kiss on the cheek from Ty, and made it back to the room so I could finish packing. Sometimes I think it would be nice to be one of "those girls" and not be a smart, responsible adult. *sigh* However, I have no illusions on where my 'attractiveness' lies. This night, as with Wednesday night, as with the entire week, I was the best kind of girl: "leaving". :)
