Scouting in the Philippines, which started as early as 1914 and is considered among the oldest in the world, has contributed a lot in the "enrichment and spread" of Jamboree experience not only to Filipino Scouts but to our brother Scouts worldwide.

It was not until 1954, 18 years after the Boys Scouts of the Philippines was incorporated by law that the first national Jamboree was held in Balara, Diliman, Quezon City from April 23 to 30 in 1954, it was a gathering of 5,111 Scouts and Scouters from 55 local councils and Scouts associations abroad.  Since then, the BSP was able to conduct 10 bigger and colorful national Jamborees, not to mention the Regional Jamboree hosted by the country and the 10th World Jamboree held in 1959 in Mt. Makiling.

What makes a Jamboree an exciting event?  Probably it's the thrill of living together in an instant city with one's Scout buddies and with other boys from other provinces, cities or countries.  It may be the excitement of traveling to a distant place for several days, be away from home for the first time.  Again, it may be the craving for fun and adventure or even just for a diversion from humdrum existence.  Or it may simply be the call of the great out-of-doors with the feeling of freedom from the other concerns of the world.  No one really knows, except for the Scout himself.
