Gold award winning sites are Cum Laude Trek sites that excel in a wide variety of fields. They have tremendous depth in their sites and a unique interface that flows throughout. Paramount in my decisions to award the gold is the evidence of originality. A good look is simply not enough in my opinion. Rather, a combination original perspective and great design is necessary for Trek sites to truly stand out. The sites that are awarded the gold are definitely worth visitng. The winners are listed by date, with the more recent in front. |

Infinitely Imzadi | Rarely have I seen a Trek site with such splendor of color and still be rich in content. It would be a treat to find a site that incorporated either, but InfinitelyImzadi's Karen manages to do both with jaw-dropping panache in her site devoted to the TNG couple Deanna Troi and Will Riker. Everything about the site is suggestive of the deep smoldering passion between the Enterprise officers, and each section of the site reveals thoughtfulness and devotion to the subject matter. The new incarnation of Infinitely Imzadi is infinitely impressive. There's too much to see in this site for just one visit, remember to bookmark and return often. 2/14/00 | |
Ex Astris Scientia | Bernd, webmaster of this site, is a research engineer at a Germand university. His background has contributed greatly to this site. Reading his article about the grandfather paradox makes one reflect on the possibility of time travel, one of the most popular sci-fi plot vehicles. Another fascinating page to visit is the inconsistencies page, where he keeps track of major oddities seen in Star Trek.
Ex Astris Scientia holds an enormous collection of starship design schematics and information, as well as a treknology glossary of major Trek innovations seen throughout the four series and nine movies. Bernd adds his own comments to a few issues and it is truly a highlight of the site. Another not to be missed section is Bernd's personal account of the Star Trek World Tour. The World Tour began in Germany and he was there to experience it. Along with a friend, the two-some converse in a dialogue and gives a tour for the rest of us not fortunate enough to experience it first-hand. (I wonder if they took a tape recorder with them.) Ex Astris Scientia is a great site that every serious Trekker should visit. 4/23/99 |
The -concrete and figurative- Trek Universe is my key to Star Trek. It provides consistency in the chaos, familiarity in the strangeness, fascination in the triviality. Star Trek is not like any other TV show, once I have switched on the TV, I feel caught in the middle of this universe. Jean-Luc Picard is not just a character, he is my Captain, and the Enterprise is my (sorry: his) ship. Star Trek being produced for entertainment, I don't claim that it is a kind of technical recipe, a philosophy or even religion. However, why shouldn't entertainment be scientifically and socially ambitious? The Final Frontier is out there in space, but also in our minds. There are always possibilities. |
K'Tesh's Klingon Recipe Pages | K'Tesh is a Klingon warrior with the status of a gourmet chef. His recipes cover the well-known main dishes such as Gagh to many other exotic offerings shown in Star Trek episodes. One can actually follow his recipes and create a good facsimile with materials found in the 20th century Earth. Besides his amazing collection of original recipes, there are many other pages of interest to the Klingon enthusiast in all of us. Sing the songs and poetry of time-honored tradition. Revel in the glorious past of the Empire. Give praise to the legendary heroes and pray for the guidance of Kahless. Vast and well-known as the Klingon Empire is, this site certainly is a great gateway to understanding their cuisine and culture better. 2/3/99 | From childhood I have always had a love for Star Trek, when Star Trek: The Next Generation arrived, I was truely hooked. A vision of humans joined together in a peacefull exploration of space. Why did I choose Klingon? Their desire for Glory and Honor appeal to me. |
Garak's Star Trek Tailor Shop | Garak's tailor shop on the Promenade has always exhibited far more activity than what one expects. In this case, Garak has kept himself busy keeping a watchful eye on everything that has come to pass on Deep Space Nine and the Dominion War. From the holosuites of the Promenade to tapping into Cardassian Intelligence, his shop brims with the current information flow. This site is updated with amazing rapidity following the each new episode of Voyager or Deep Space Nine to air and is a great page to return again and again. 1/5/99 | Originally, I was drawn to Star Trek by the action. "Caretaker" and "Defiant" captivated my attention and drew me closer to its heart. Now, a few years later, it's the idea of showing us a vision of what we should strive to be like. It's just an image, a reflection on what we should be. But hey, you've got to love the characters! |
Vulcan Language Institute | The Vulcan Language Institue is the foremost authority on Old High Vulcan language anywhere. With 18 years of research to his credit, Mark has created a site that examines not only the linguistic aspect of the foremost member world of the Federation, but its culture, technology, and even Surak's philosophies. There is incredible depth to every page, most of which are filled with Federation-Standard to Vulcan translations of relevant words with regards to the topic. With so much to see, learning to say "Live Long and Prosper" in Vulcan is only one of the things visitors must do while visiting the institute. 12/31/98 | Star Trek is a place where each of us, with our unique qualities and traits, have a place to fit. Whether you find yourself drawn to the Klingons, Vulcans, Ferengi, or any of dozens of other races, there is a place for EVERYONE at this table. Although it does not show a perfect future, it shows there are always possibilities and people can survive and prosper when working together with those who are often very different from themselves. |
Starfleet Military Reserves | Starfleet Military Reserves is a projection of a possible direction the Alpha Quadrant might take in view of lessons learned from the Dominion War. This team has new designs in all fields of science to counter weaknesses that have beset Starfleet ships and technology for much of the war. Besides warship proposals, intriguing upgrades, weapons, and other new technologies make for one impressively original site. 12/12/98 | To me personally, Star Trek is a vision of what we HOPE the future will be like. Too often when I watch the news and see the destructive impulses of the world around me, it is comforting to see the hope Gene Roddenberry helped instill in me. Though I doubt his vision will come true for sure, I am optimistic that some of his creativity will shape our future. |
Steve's Trek Pages | Steve's pages use original graphics to emulate a distinctive LCARS interface. Among its many unique features is a database of Trek languages that is most impressive, a Trek cyber pet adoption, and quite a collection of original Trek art and other interesting material. Steve has managed to develop a very complete database with a wide ranging variety to suit the tastes of every visitor. 12/04/98 | Star Trek is both an optimistic vision of the future and a way for us to look objectively at our own time. It is a method of allowing many diverse peoples and cultures to come together in harmony. |
