Site Name | My Comments | Answer to Vision of Trek question |
The Men of Trek Lust/Appreciation Brigade Lounge | The Men of Trek Brigade is a unique group of Trek fans who pay homage to the breathtaking male population in the Trek Universe. Being a member of the Brigade myself, I can attest to the extensive gallery filled with thousands of quality pictures for every male one can remember. From Bashir to Shaakar to Tuvok to Kirk to the more extic aliens, everyone who is male is covered. Besides the enormous gallery, there are also the themes, sounds, fanfic and essays to explore. The depths of devotion is incredible, and all the ladies have their own sites as well. A heaven for those of us who can't get enough of Star Trek men. 5/20/99 | A vision of all fans uniting, regardless of their reasons for fandom, be they for the women, the men, the fanfic, or any otherpreference. |
Star Trek TV Guide | For Trek fans in countries that carry Trek only through BBC, this site is a godsend. Every episode of TNG, DS9, and Voyager is given coverage here as well as specific broadcast times for each. Besides the obligatory synopsis, this site also includes many video captures that are helpful when recalling a particular episode. Well-designed and useful to anyone needing episode info, this site is a worthwhile place to visit. 5/2/99 | For me Star Trek is a possible way humankind could evolve. A proud, noble, and moral people who have no hate, no famine, no discrimination. A strong and able race, driven to explore the galaxy using sophisticatedtechnology. Those two factores, a better human race and the exploration of space, appeal to me. Whether the human race will improve, whether space explorationis so 'clean' as in Star Trek.... who know's. Only future will tell. We can only learn from Star Trek. |
Kahless' Final Frontier | Klingons have a proud past and a mighty Empire, but they don't have many sites that are as memorable for being quietly elegant. Kahless, unforgettable for his many deeds of valor, the destruction of Molor being most notable, now also has a very worthy representation on the Net. With plenty of high quality images and sounds as well as a forthcoming theme section, the Final Frontier is a haven for multimedia and eye-candy. The real attraction, though, lies in its excellent design. 3/17/99 | To me Trek is a vision of a possible future, a future in which we set aside our differences to explore space and work to the advancement of the human race. |
Star Trek: The Collective | News and rumors flash and fade at warp nine on the net, and it is a heady business trying to keep on top of everything. However, Star Trek : The collective does it all, by providing current news and tidbits for both the Voyager and Deep Space Nine series with amazing speed and detail. Besides the news section, there are episode synopsis that allow visitors to rate, many interactive features, and other Trek odds and ends to explore. The navigation and the frames can sometimes get rather unpredictable, but the quality of the site and presentation of information make it a worthwhile stop to visit. 2/12/99 | I see Star Trek as a bright outlook for what the human race *could* achieve with determination and spirit - Star Trek shows that it's possible for us to rise above our normal existence. |
Guinan's Bar and Grille | Guinan has a side operation as a restaurant owner. Besides dispensing her famous beverages, a hoarde of humor and ST parodies await the Trekker to laugh and smile over. Guinan caters to all four series and the 9 motion pictures at her site, but she also has a unique original art collection and a great Jukebox to check out. If Quark is too Ferengi at times, come to Guinan's instead! 2/3/99 | My vision of what Trek is not really OUR future.. Being a child of TOS (The Old Series) I saw Trek as a getaway. A place I would love to visit. "Wouldn't it be great if humankind put aside there differences and lived in peace? Money no longer drives our society..." Now it has become more of a "lets see what the fans will buy now" sort of thing and has cheapened the ideal somewhat. |
Kamar Sutra: A Twisted Tribute to Elim Garak | Kama Sutra is an ancient Hindu text that teaches women how to please a man. The connotations of love and lust survive the ages and -- ends up on the Internet! Note, however, that the title is Kamar Sutra for this site, a reference to an earlier DS9 episode. Seriously, this page is one to see, the work of a woman who professes her obsession for Elim Garak. Cattnip, the webmistress, has a sharp wit and enough eloquence to match the tailor himself. On page after page, her love and admiration for the Cardassian is tangible. Her letters to the tailor draw hysterical laughter while conveying her deep adoration at the same time. This is one of the very few sites whose writing makes the most lasting impression and it is definitely the skill of the author that brings alive Elim like nothing I've ever seen before. 2/1/99 | To me, Star Trek is both a fictionalized, optimistic view of the future of humanity, and a very possible outcome of our evolution. With the 21st century at our doorstep, I'm reminded of a bit of Federation history - a devastating world war that ushers in a new era of peace and enlightenment. It will be interesting, in the coming years, to see just how close to the mark this view will be. |
The Adventures of Argus | This is among the best sim sites I've encountered in my journeys on the web. Featuring many action-packed episodes with a fine crew of diverse backgrounds, the USS Argus is an impressive ship presented in an equally good design. The Argus introduces us to crew that not only come from all the member worlds of the Federation and its allies, but are rendered in 3d. With many stories to offer and interesting pages to visit, the Argus is one ship to board and tour. 1/28/99 | My vision of Trek is an example of what the human race can become once our petty differences are put aside and we reach the stars. |
The JuPiter Station | A Trek fanfic site has never been like this. The JuPiter Station is dedicated to the proposition that Janeway and Paris of the USS Voyager can share a romantic relationship. Though it doesn't advocate the splitting up of B'Elanna and Paris, which would be a major shake-up of the Voyager status quo, it does however, present a very persuasive case that Janeway and Paris (shorthand J/P) would make a lovely pair. The sheer number of writers who contribute to this site all have some perspective to share about a possible relationship between J/P, and one could easily spend hours going through the gallery of stories. For originality and unbelieveable depth, this site is one to see and read. 12/27/98 | Trek gives me hope and dreams for a better tomorrow for our world. Before Trek, I was a simple American patriot, but Trek made my eyes open that we're all one people living on this only home in the universe. We need to get alone or we'll never be able to survive. As a support of space exploration, I realized that it's best for the Terran race to be united when venturing out in space. Trek shows that we *can* do the impossible if we just work together. |
The LCARS: Federation Databank |
This site is the largest Trek site in AOL, and it certainly has enough breadth and depth to prove the point. There are many interesting elements in this site, not the least of which is the RealAudio First Contact file or the monthly Star Trek contest. Plenty of graphics, downloads, and other info fill out the body of the databank. It is a wonderful resource for all the Trek needs of a visitor. 12/12/98 | I've seen Star Trek as a vision of the future, of what humanity can achieve if we only put our minds to it. And who wouldn't want to be on the bridge of the Enterprise (Defiant, Voyager, etc.)? |
Federation Intelligence | A graphically appealing site, this simulation site is a great place to see the LCARS interface taken to new hights. Federation Intelligence is based on a secret Federation organization intent on protecting classified information from enemy eyes. 12/12/98 | I think Star Trek is a great way for people to step out of life for a while and enjoy some good fantasy, especially Star Treks positive view of Earths future. It is sad that it will probably never happen. |
