Twenty-four
and Seven
Working as a law enforcement
officer is something that most little boys dream about when they are
growing
up. It was for me also, but it was an opportunity that came much later
than to most people who enter this profession. I truly enjoy my work
and
look forward to going to work every day. I am fortunate to work
for
a very professional agency in a rapidly growing and changing community.
The Collier County Sheriff's
Office
offers
a wide variety of areas to work in. Due to the growth in the community,
the Sheriff's Office is also growing and changing. There are always new
opportunities to experience and learn from.
Working as a deputy sheriff
is a full time commitment. Even when off duty, a deputy must be
prepared
to act in an emergency. It sometimes is very difficult to have a
personal
life away from the job. People recognize you in restaurants and stores
and will stop and ask questions about things they have seen going on in
the community. There have been numerous times when someone has knocked
on my door at home to ask for directions or report a problem after
seeing
my patrol car in the driveway. Twenty four hours a day, seven days a
week.
That's how long a law enforcement officer is expected to be prepared
for
work.
