| Book Chain | Implemented by several schools, the idea behind this program is to create a chain that encircles the entire school. Math classes estimate the number of links needed, and the chain is suspended from the library ceiling until enough links are reached. | Celebrate 2000 Read | The current (1999) program focused on Japan and China. In an earlier program, there was a school goal to read 6000 books. | Franklin Area School District | A variety of reading incentive programs and events are offered at Central and Sandycreek Elementary Schools to encourage students to read. Each November, the library sponsors a PARP program while a separate program is offered in April to celebrate School Library Media Month. Special events include R.E.D. Days, Trivia Contest, Bookplate Contests, Book Cheers or Commercials, and much more. | Deborah

In this neat program, children joins teams at the Dinosaur Derby. After signing up for the program, they read books and listen to tapes, CDs, etc. while tracking their time. | Winslow Schools | For every ten books read, students receive a coupon to spend in the PTO bookstore. The program started at the beginning of the school year and runs through the last Friday of the year. Each morning, students can tell the reading teacher about the book they read while she is on hall duty. | Wren's Media Center | This school offers a neat program which, during the 1998-99 school year had the theme of the "Magic of Reading." Program requirements varied depending upon the grade level of the student. Participants earned a special celebration while top readers earned limo rides to Chuck E Cheese and a Toys R Us shopping trip. The school also uses the Reading Counts program. | |
