| 1/13/01 | ESA NEWS!: The U.S. Fish and Wildife Service has finally listed nine Texas cave invertebrates, including 5 spiders, as endangered on the U.S. Endangered Species Act. You can read more about it in the USFWS press release, the Federal Register notice, and the GREENLines news item. |
| 10/4/00 | Added some news items: NatureServe® is a source for authoritative conservation information on more than 50,000 plants, animals, and ecological communities of the United States and Canada. NatureServe is provided by the Association for Biodiversity Information (ABI) a non-profit organization dedicated to developing and providing knowledge about the world's natural diversity. While compiled data on spiders is admittedly sparse, 343 spider species are tracked in these databases, including 108 at risk species. Decent ecological and conservation status reports are available for USESA-listed species or candidates and rarer species. Also: the new 2000 IUCN Red List is available online as a searchable database. No clear changes in the status of spiders since the 1996 Red List have been made. Fixed some broken links on several pages. |
| 9/14/00 | Added new links. The GrassRoots Environmental Effectiveness Network (GREEN), a project of Defenders of Wildlife publishes a daily electronic newsletter called GREENLines. GREEN is a project of Defenders of Wildlife designed to serve grassroots wildlife and wildlands advocates. Two issues with notes related to spider listings are here and here. |
| 10/26/99: | Spider Conservation Symposium Update: The nine papers and an editorial from the Spider Conservation Symposium have been published in the Journal for Insect Conservation and are available in PDF format online. Also: the Kauai cave wolf spider of Hawaii has been listed as endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. |
| 10/26/99: | Updated a few news items on the main page - the criteria for IUCN Red Lists are under review, and nine papers are soon to be published as a result of the 1998 spider conservation symposium. Citations have been added to the bibliography page. |
| 10/18/99: | Geocities is now a part of Yahoo!, and they have once again revised ad requirements. Banners were removed, but an unavoidable smaller pop-up will now appear on all pages - easily dismissed with a doubleclick to the upper right corner. *wink* This site can now be reached through a shorter, more direct address: www.oocities.org/spidercons. Revised and added a few links. |
