There's too much unknown to this painting, but I know it was a direct painting from this small photograph of a man, who I thought looked like a jazz musician (hence the title). Joeann had meddled with it a little while I was away in another class. But I like this painting quite a lot. |

This was the first real-life portrait
I did in soft-pastels. It was for a class test, and I had
pulled an unsuspecting second year student to sit for me.
Flaws: It looks like a man doesn't it? |

of Suraya. Final:

This is one of the most horrible
portraits I've done. It is of Suraya, my art classmate,
who posed for me. Anatomically, it's unsound, and that's
not even the crux of it. But it is one of my favourite
paintings nonetheless, because of it's grotesque factor. Flaws: The whole thing. |

I was supposed to do a portrait of
Joanna, my "goodest closest friend", for her
birthday. She sent me some photographs to reproduce from,
but I chose this one of her when she was around 8 years
old, dolled up in a tribal Taiwanese costume. Flaws: The nose is a tad too big. |

of Suraya. Final:

Suraya posed for me, in her secondary
school uniform. (She had exchanged her own uniform with a
girl from her secondary school.) I did it in a Friday
afternoon, that much I remember. Flaws: Almond eyes, one of the greatest flaws committed by beginners. |
