My personal opinions on John

The hard man of the group. The leader of the band that changed the world. But was John Lennon really that simplistic of a man? He wasn't. Lennon had many layers, many sides that were revealed at different points of his life, and after. John was the arrogant front man of the savage young Beatles. He was the aimless art student who lost his best friend at the age of twenty-one. His mother had died when he was seventeen, his father had abandoned him. Lennon developed a tough exterior to protect himself from the pain he felt inside. A world famous rock star, a supposed spokesman for a generation, and a father and husband. Lots of responsibility for a twenty-six year old. Lennon knew he was growing faster than the Beatles; hence, the entrance of Yoko Ono into his life. John and Yoko grew together as artists, friends, spokespeople and lovers. They staged events such as the infamous Bed-In for Peace, spoke openly against war, and fully supported causes in which they believed. Lennon had retired from making music in 1975 to raise their son, Sean, but was starting his comeback when, in December of 1980, a man not worthy of recognition shot John dead in front of the Dakota. December 8th must have been the coldest day of the year (I was only six months old at the time), but the world lost a legend, and a friend. The man who gave peace a chance. Imagine Strawberry Fields Forever. John Lennon, the leader--the head--of the Beatles.
