Richard Starkey, aka
Ringo Starr

A drummer for the ages!

Born: 7 July 1940

My Personal Opinions of Ringo Starr

Ringo, the man who put the "beat" in "Beatles". (Sorry, I couldn't resist it!) Ringo joined the group at the request of John and Paul in 1962, just as The Beatles were beginning to break into stardom. His stage name comes from his love of big, exotic rings (which was also the plot of the movie Help!, and he shortened his surname so his drum solos could be billed (with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes) as "Starr Time". Ringo appeared to be, through 1966, the amiable Good-Time-Charlie who was fortunate enough to be picked up as the Beatle-coaster took flight. This is not altogether true. Ringo was as good a musician as the other four. He sang on each of their early albums, and offered his first solo composition, Don't Pass Me By (ironic, no?) on The Beatles (The White Album). After Abbey Road was completed, many people wondered what would happen to the drummer. Ringo held his own as a solo artist, as well as an actor. OK, so he never acted in a movie of the Casablanca quality, but he did well in the genre. Ringo has toured with his All-Starr Band over the years, and his latest album, Vertical Man was released recently. (Anyone catch his interview with Howard Stern? Hilarious!). Ringo has proven he's more than just a drummer. He is a musician, one that the world will never forget. Ringo Starr -- the Flesh and Blood of The Beatles.
