Chapter 15

Janet flicked on a faucet immediately. "SHH!! Yes, a gun."
"I don't think this bowling alley allows guns..."
"No, I don't think so either. Look, Dottie," she pleaded, "I'm not kidding around
here. I'm counting on you." She shut the water off and, on Janet's cue a couple
seconds later, Dottie punched a hand dryer on. "This man could be very
dangerous," Janet continued. "He's not all that smart, but if he decides to use that
gun, he will. Now... I've got a birthday party for my little girl tomorrow. And in one
week or so, there'll be over a hundred people packed around a minister and
some overwrought flower arrangements, waiting for me to show up and
exchange vows with a very handsome man... most likely wearing a very
silly looking tie," she added with a wry smile. "So you see, my date book is a little
filled up. I don't have time to be recovering from bullet wounds!"
         "Or worse," Dottie offered.
The dryer shut off. Time was running out. "Are you with me, Dottie? I need you to
wait a minute or so after I go, then come on out of here, find a phone, and call
the police. Can you do that for me?"
Dottie looked around a little nervously. "Are the cameras still rolling?"
         "Camer-- come again?"
"That was a REALLY good speech... you've still got it, Ms. Turner. Can I call you
     Kathleen?"
'Oh my god, she thinks we're shooting a movie?!  This is hopeless!' Thinking as fast
as she could... "Dottie, if you do EXACTLY what I told you... make it sound as real
as you can... then we'll be all set. But you CAN'T tell the cops that you're
     acting.  Okay?"
Dottie's eyes got big. "Then they know about this already!"
         "Yeah, something like that."
Dottie sealed the deal with a nod and a wink, taking Janet's makeshift data and
clutching it to her chest confidently. "You can count on me. I've got this down
     cold," she told Janet.
'That's about all I can do', Janet decided. "Thank you," she said earnestly. And
     turned to leave.
"Hey-- if you see that Michael Douglas fellow soon, tell him I said hi."
         "Uh-huh! You've got it!"
'I've got to stop working with would be actors', she was thinking.
