Who is Sami Brady?

Sami was born to Roman and Marlena and she and her twin, Eric, were kidnapped by Stefano Dimera early in their childhood. She and Eric went to live with Marlena's parents in Colorado when they were eight. When Sami returned to Salem in 1993 at the age of sixteen, she was unprepared for the situations she would face. She witnessed her mother's adulterous encounter with John Black in the Titan board room, and the sight later drove her to bulimia. After discovering that the child Marlena bore was not her father's, Sami then tried to sell her half-sister, Belle, on the black market. Sami was raped by Alan Harris and when he was brought to trial, Carrie's badly worded testimony made it impossible for the jury to convict him, but Carrie's boyfriend, Austin Reed, stood by her and believed her. Sami developed a severe crush on him and determined to make him her own. The rest, as they say, is DOOL history.
What are her main conflicts?

Sami loves her son, Will, and wants him to have a good childhood. To that end she has tried to involve Duh-Boy in the raising of her son and trying to exclude Lucas Roberts, who just happens to be Will's biological father. She hates Kate Roberts for trying to keep her and Duh-Boy apart, and feels the sting of Kate's rejection in favor of Carrie quite keenly. To that end, she has acquired blackmail information on Kate that has given her a job at Titan and a place to live in the Kiriakis mansion. Sami thinks her mother is a tramp, and she hates John Black for being the supposed cause of her parents' ruined relationship. Carrie, however, occupies her #1 hit list spot. Destroying Carrie's marriage is Sami's idea of the perfect revenge for all the tribulations that she's had to go through, and she will do almost anything to make sure that Carrie and Austin will never be together again.
What would I do with Sami if I were a DOOL writer?

  • Marry her off to Franco Kelly. They are two of a kind and they belong together, at least for awhile. They'd make some wild kids together, in my humble opinion.
  • While she's married to Franco, have Lucas fall in love with her. They have a steamy affair and when Franco finds out, he leaves her. Sami, pregnant at this time, will not know who the father is and will (for once) wisely reserve judgment until the baby is born.
  • Get her involved in an adventure with either Franco or Eric. There aren't enough adventures in DOOL these days!
  • Keep up the bitching match between her and Kate Roberts. I used to like Kate, but her schemes for her darling children are worse than Sami's sometimes! Have a knock-down, drag-out catfight one week and see the ratings skyrocket. I like it, I like it. . .

What are Sami's feelings about the possible formation of B & H, Inc.?

She loves the idea! Seeing Carrie and Duh-Boy torn asunder would make her ecstatic, and she and Carrie might just patch things up if Duh-Boy is out of the picture. Sami herself is responsible for some of the Mike and Carrie moments, and I highly approve of her pro-Mike machinations, even if they are for all the wrong reasons.

My opinion of the character of Sami Brady?

I have to say I really, really like Alison Sweeney. She's an excellent actress who has survived the JERk Era (think James E. Reilly, ex-headwriter for DOOL and occupant of the second ring of my dartboard) and has emerged as a cogent force in Salem. She has excellent chemistry with everyone she shares a scene with. I liked her work with Victor Alfieri and I'm starting to like her work with Austin Peck. I always thought her scenes with Bryan Dattilo were of the highest caliber. I can't wait to see what the future holds for this talented and gifted actress.
