Sailing site: Croatia

This page contains photos from a sailing tour of Croatia (14.-21 Sept 1996). The starting point for this tour was the Veruda Marina in Istria. We left Veruda with a BAVARIA 44 charter-yacht called NONAME in the direction of Mali Losinj, passing Ilovik, Zapuntel (north of Kornat), Osor, Cres and then made our way back to Veruda. The crew of seven included myself and my colleagues Herbert Becha (the skipper) and Erwin Maderbacher.

At the outset we had to prove our technical knowledge by repairing various things on the vessel - such as the radio. As a communications engineer, this job naturally fell to me - lucky I took my soldering iron with me!

We set off on the first leg of our journey, from Veruda to the island of Cres. In perfect weather and for our first overnight stop, we anchored in a lovely little bay just north of Mali Losinj. Now for a short summary of the rest of the tour: sailed to and explored Mali-Losinj, acquired scuba diving permit at harbour-office (Herbert is as enthusiastic a scuba diver as I am!), anchored off Ilovik, dived between Ilovik and Cres, crossed to the island of Molat (north of Kornat), dived in the bay of Zapuntel, passage of Osor, crossed to the marina in Cres, returned to Veruda.

As I already mentioned, the weather at the outset was perfect, but on the crossing to Cres the weather changed and it was in 8Bft waves (caused by local "Bora" winds) that we negotiated the steep coast to the southwest of Cres and it was only after a few anxious hours that we eventually reached Cres marina - considerably later than planned.

Our skipper Herbert was at the helm throughout the crisis and did us proud! Erwin Maderbacher was responsible for entertainment on board - something he developed a great talent for ("I don't care any more...").
