Children Helping Children
- Reading Buddies
- What better way to share books and original stories than with a buddy.
Students from the upper grades meet weekly with their lower grade partners
to read books and write stories.
- Wee Deliver Postal Service
- Have a friend in another classroom? Write a letter, drop it into the
Wee Deliver mailbox, and our in-school postal service will deliver it.
Student letter carriers and sorters make sure the mail gets to its destination
quickly.
- Safety Patrol
- Safety Patrol members help keep student traffic moving safely and smoothly
during arrival and dismissal times. They also act as Eagle Guides to help
new students and their parents get familiar with Goldsboro's campus. New
students and their parents are given a personal tour of the campus and
guided to their new classroom.
- Student Council
- Students had an exciting time learning about the voting process. Even the mayor of Sanford, Betty Smith, participated as one of the distinguished guest speaker during the Student Council campaign speech program. Student Council members play an active role in helping to improve Goldsboro's campus and in voicing the opinions and concerns of their peers.

Academics
- D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
- Officer Poovey is Goldsboro's D.A.R.E.
officer. He meets weekly with each 5th grade class and, through a variety of activities, educates students about substance abuse. Upon completion of the program, students celebrate with a D.A.R.E. picnic and graduation ceremony during which they receive a D.A.R.E. T-shirt and certificate.
- Accelerated Reader
- Students choose a book to read. After reading the book, they take a short computerized comprehension test from the Accelerated Reader program. Points are given for each correct answer. A chance for a fun-filled field trip is one incentive which students in kindergarten through fifth
grade can earn with these points.
- Student of the Week
- Students are recognized for outstanding achievements and community
services performed outside the school environment. They receive an award
certificate, free meal certificate, and have their name placed on the school's
marquee.
- ABC Awards
- Teachers love catching students doing things right. Students are given ABC award coupons for Academics, Behavior, and Citizenship.
A short form on the bottom part is filled out and turned in for weekly random prize drawings and the opportunity to eat lunch at a local restaurant with the principal.

After School
- YMCA After School Program
- YMCA provides after school child care at Goldsboro. Students participate in arts and crafts projects and sports activities.
- After School Tutoring
- Teachers work with small groups of students after school every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Students receive help with homework and participate in hands-on and computer activities to strengthen basic reading, writing, and math skills.
