June
13, 2005- Yesterday afternoon, the Sparrows (2-0) and the Hustlers
(1-1) did not disappoint. The game had a playoff like intensity
throughout but in the end, the Sparrows were able to pull through
and hold on for the upset 59-54.
Ken
put together many multi play drives, grinding away at the clock
and keeping the Hustlers offense off the field for as long as possible.
Akil was able to strike on several barnburners early on.
The
Sparrows forced a defensive stop on the first drive of the game
and were able to eventually take a 7-0 lead.
At
the half, the Sparrows lead 24-21.
However,
Akil would take his first lead of the game in the 3rd quarter, 35-31
after picking up his first defensive stop of the game. But after
the Sparrows regained the lead, 38-35, Akil dropped a short 3rd
and 1 pass giving the Sparrows the chance to go up by 10 again,
45-35.
Akil
battled back late with a throwoff return with under a minute to
go, but the onside throw attempt was just out of Akils hands. The
Sparrows lead by 11 with 5 seconds left. Akil scored one last touchdown
to wrap the game up 59-54, Sparrows.
Notes:
-The Sparrows are now 2-0 for the 4th time in their history

when the Sparrows lead by 11.
-Rich F. quarterbacked his first BFL game and threw no interceptions.
-The Sparrows ended their streak of games with at least 1 interception
at 5 games.
-Akil's next game is against the Gamblers and their series is tied
at 1-1.
