FALCONS DEFEAT GAMBLERS TO WIN 2ND BFL CHAMPIONSHIP! |
|
August 11, 2007- At BFL Bowl X, the Falcons (5-1) made history, becoming the only the 2nd team to win multiple BFL Bowls by defeating the Gamblers (5-1) 84-70 at the Battlefield. While the Falcons won the game by 2 touchdowns, the game was much closer on the field. This game went right down to the end as the Falcons had to hold off two onside throw attempts in the final minute of play to seal the victory.
The Falcons had defeated the Melody and Crusaders and seemed to be playing some great football to get to the game. But the Gamblers, were the best team in the league all season long, winning game after game via blowout. Mark defeated the Bulldogs 81-55 in the first round and then defeated the Sand Storm 81-49 in the biggest playoff win ever to advance to his first BFL Bowl. This time, it would be the two best teams from the season, dueling in yet another BFL Bowl Classic.
For the Tenth anniversary of the BFL Bowl, this game had the biggest feel of them all. The field looked great, the banners were raised high and a record crowd of 31 people were in attendance to watch a competitive game of football.
The Falcons won the toss and elected to throwoff. Mark would start the game off with an incomplete pass. On 3rd and 1, a normally routine catch for the Gamblers, resulted in the first defensive stop of the game. For the first time in BFL Bowl History, a team failed to score points on their opening possession. Ross would capitalize and take a 7-0 lead to start the game.
Mark of the Gamblers would respond with his first touchdown of the game. Trailing 14-7, Mark would be stopped on downs for the second time in the game. A Falcons score would give Ross a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the 2nd, the Falcons and Gamblers would both get into the groove offensively and exchange touchdowns back and forth. The Gamblers would cut the Falcons lead down to 35-28 with his 4th touchdown of the game. After a failed onside throw attempt, the Falcons had a chance to take a 14 point lead going into the half. However, facing a 3rd and 2 from deep in Gamblers territory, the Falcons slipped on the play, giving the Gamblers the ball back. Mark would score and the two teams would go into the half tied at 35-35.
The Falcons would get back on the score board to start the half, 42-35. With the Falcons leading 49-42, the turning point of the game turning point would occur. The Gamblers would drop and short first down pass. Then on second and third down, the Gamblers missed on two deep balls, giving possession back to the Falcons. Ross would soon take a 49-35 lead.
The two clubs exchanged scores into the final minute of play. Mark attempted two onside throws and nearly completed the first of the two. Had he succeeded, he would have had a chance at tieing the game. Ross scored one last time to seal the deal and win the game 84-70.
Other significant events at the BFL Bowl included announing Steve of the Warriors as the 2007 MVP, naming Mike O. as the 2007 commenator of the year, and Marko's farewell speech, as he his retiring from commentating.

-84 Points is the most in BFL Bowl history
