The Night People
Written by Donald James | Directed by Robert Asher

Prologue
While walking on the street, Craig accidently spots a bank robbery about to be committed and is able to thwart the robbers before they enter the bank.

"Craig Stirling, one of the Champions. Craig Stirling, possessing with Sharron Macready and Richard Barrett, incredible powers. Survivors of an air crash in the mountains of Tibet where they met a people of an unknown civilisation who mended their bodies and endowed them with fantastic qualities and skills. Qualities and skills both physical and menal to the peak of human performance. Craig, witness to a planned bank robbery, foils the scheme with ease by using the gifts bestowed upon him. Gifts that are a secret to be closely guarded. A secret that enables the Champions to use their powers to their best advantage as operators of the international agency of Nemesis. Champions of law, order and justice."

Synopsis
While holidaying in Cornwall, Sharron disappears after asking to look around Trennick House. This house is known locally for stories about witchcraft and mysterious happenings and is subsequently feared by the community. Richard and Craig abruptly cut short their holiday sensing that Sharron is in trouble. When they arrive in Cornwall they find a fake Sharron in the room registered to S. Macready, and Trennick denies knowing where the real Sharron is. Trennick is using the rumours of witchcraft and evil that surrounds his property to make sure people keep away. He wants to capitalise on the uranium deposits in the region for his own greedy purposes by leaking false US/UK defense agreements that will ensure his uranium prices will rise.

Review
This is an episode where the trio don't have a set assignment by Tremayne, instead they stumble upon the events by chance. The agents are involving themselves voluntarily out of the loyalties of friendship. It is because of this that we only see Tremayne in the last scene.

It's a good episode for the fans because we get more insight into the character's personalities. The reason Sharron is in Cornwall is because she has a love for architechture and likes to spend her free time studying the old buildings in the area. While she spends her holiday by herself, Richard and Craig spend it together in the Carribbean. The friendship between the three of them is clearly shown when Sharron rings overseas to Craig to inform him of her concerns about Trennick House. Craig and Richard decide to help her out even though it means travelling to the cold climate of England.

For you trivia buffs out there, Sharron's MG convertible licence plate is "BWH 921B". Richard's car licence plate is "3366 F".

Some excellent dialogue between Richard and Craig is evident, acting like siblings rather than professional colleagues, they never pass up and opportunity to have a joke at the other's expense. Craig complains that his suit is ruined due to being burnt and torn to pieces and wants expenses paid to replace it. Richard instead remarks that he should just get it repaired saying that it's alright, just now it's a "charcoal grey!". The display of an extensive historic knowledge by Richard while in Cornwall recieves a "gee whiz!" by Craig and remarks like, "it must be wonderful to be as smart as you are". Both guys ooze sarcasm throughout the episode.

A very good episode. The dark mysterious, "spooky" atmosphere of the story is done well, though the ending is perhaps too much considering the settings and characters involved. As usual Donald James has written some very good dialogue and interesting characters.
