Twelve Hours
Written by Donald James | Directed by Paul Dickson

Prologue
While waiting for the lifts in a hotel lobby, Craig is bumped into by a woman carrying a stack of gifts. She dumps them into Craig's arms, and he tries to follow her into the lifts but is shut out at the last moment. He then takes the stairs and beats the lifts up to the top floor and delivers the gifts to the surprised lady.

"Craig Stirling, one of the Champions. Endowed with the senses and qualities of a super human. Craig Stirling, Sharron Macready and Richard Barrett: the Champions. Endowed with the qualities and skills of super humans. Qualities and skills both physical and mental to the peak of human performance. Gifts given to them by an unknown race of people from a lost city in Tibet. Gifts that are a secret to be closely guarded. A secret that enables them to use their powers to their best advantage as the Champions of law, order and justice. Operators of the international agency of Nemesis."

Synopsis
A visiting president, Drobnic, and his wife are inspecting a submarine when a bomb planted aboard explodes, killing the captain and severely injuring the president. The bomb was meant to kill Drobnic, but instead severely damages the submarine with 30 crew and Richard, Sharron and the president and his distraught wife. As oxygen runs dangerously low Sharron must operate on the president before the submarine can be pumped out and raised to the surface due to the dangers of violent movement the submarine will undergo when pumping. When the operation succeeds with only three hours to go, a crew member who wants to the submarine to surface attempts to kill Drobnic.

Review
Interesting story, and another good original one. The incident being confined to the crammed spaces of the submarine gives it a more dramatic feel, one which is needed in such a story. Richard and Sharron must save the president, but also make sure the restless crew don't take matters into their own hands. Richard immediately senses that Raven ( Randall and Hopkirk Deceased's Mike Pratt) will try and force the submarine to the surface, therefore indangering the important president's life. This sub plot makes the story a suspensful one, Richard and Sharron must battle to save a man's life through crude surgery but also risk their own lives, and that of 30 innocent crew men, while doing so. That begs the question of whether Drobnic is that important to risk so many lives, even though Richard firmly states that if he dies thousands might also die in his home country, the audience might think whether they agree with Richard's actions.

The introduction is quite humouress, in an otherwise humourless episode. Craig is in the foyer of a hotel, he gets a large stack of gift boxes dropped into his arms by a woman who is having trouble carrying them. He galantly offers to hold them for her, but as she goes into the elevator he gets left behind. So instead of waiting, he climbs the stairs, over 15 stories, and makes it up there so fast that he is waiting for her when the elevator doors open!

A good episode, with many interesting moments. It flows well throughout, but slows just a little in the last few scenes after most of the dramatic moments have been resolved.
