Again this was another movie that was built up so much and expectations of it were so high that it would be hard if not near impossible to avoid critisism of it not being good enough and that is what happened and a lot of critics slammed it. The main reasons for this is that they probably expected it to be as good if not better than the previous three and lets face it this was never going to happen in a million years. Better than Jedi maybe if we're very lucky but not the first two. The second reason is that many people said that Lucas had sold out - as if he needs to, he's a billionaire for god sake - and made a movie aimed for kids which is why the Jar Jar Binks character annoyed so many people. Do these people not realise that the trilogy were kids movies anyway and they themselves were kids when they watched the originals. Jar Jar Binks is a nob head though!! The film itself looks great and the computer generated droids and space ships are brilliant. As for Darth Maul he wasn't in it anywhere near long enough. He was the Boba Fet of the new film and I think is what most like minded people wanted to see more than anything else and what he lacks in screen time he makes up for in being cool as fuck for ten minutes. Ray Park who plays him does some amazing stunts and should be signed up by the WWF because he would kick Steve Blackman's ass in the hardcore division. If they can have a gay olympic gold medalist as WWF Champion then surely this wouldn't be too much to ask. Ewan McGreggor and Liam Neeson did a good job as the two Jedi's which Mcgreggor sort of pulling off the Alec Guinness impression. It was a shit one though. But I didn't like Anakin Skywalker. It would have been far better if Hayley Joel Osment from The Sixth Sense had played him because he is a far better actor. A good film that leaves room for improvement for part 2. They need a new baddie as well this will be a tough one to match. |
