Monica Hughes was born in Liverpool in 1925 and came to Canada in 1952. Sadly, she passed away in March of 2003.  She was a proliferate writer with many SF novels to her name. Monica won numerous literary awards including the Canada Council Children's Literature Award for Guardian of Isis in 1982 and Hunter in the Dark in 1983.  Most of Monica's  novels are for children and young adults. Monica was one of the Jurors for the first Sunburst Award which is presented annually for published works of Fantastic Literature.
