Karin Lowachee
Karin Lowachee was born in South America, raised near Toronto and lived in the sub-Arctic community of Rankin Inlet for 9 months. Karin's short story "Culture Shock" appeared in the summer 1994 issue of On Spec.  Karin's first novel, Warchild, won the Warner Aspect first novel contest. She is the second person (as well as the second Canadian) to win the Warner Aspect first novel contest. The first was Nalo Hopkinson. This well received novel was short-listed for both a Prix Aurora Award and a Philip K. Dick Award. It also made the Locus Recommended Reading list and  Science Fiction Chronicle's "One of the Year's Best SF Novels". Karin's novel Burndive debuted at #7 on the November 2003 Locus Bestseller List and is a sequel to Warchild. Karin's latest novel is called Cagebird.
