Paxum

Tape cover for Underwater Harmonis

Piano, sax and drums. That's what Paxum stood for. Rob of Dirge (Cartoon Khaki) approached Chris Betlejemski of Circle Theorem (Curtis Mathis) and asked him if he would play drums in a solo project of Rob's where Rob would play piano and saxophone. Chris agreed and they recorded their first and only album at Assumption College in Brantford January 17th 1995 in the communications lab.

Paxum never had a show however there was talk about performingMarch 3rd 1995 since there was a piano at the show. While they were recording Mr. Dobowski came in and listened and thought that we could do wedding receptions and he was going to talk to someone about getting a show for us. Nothing ever happened with that unfortunately. Thirteen tracks were recorded that day, only ten were released. All the songs were done in one take.

Despite talking about recording again Chris and Rob would never step in front of the mic again to record another Paxum album. The album was released through Humpin' In The Back Room Music and was number nine in the catalog. It was the only solo recording from a member of Cartoon Khaki released on Humpin' In The Back Room.

The album was released January 20th 1995 and was released at Second Wave at the same time as the Furry Ongion album. All twenty tapes were either given away or sold. One tape was known to be sold to Dave Negle June 16th 1995 and it was just for the Beatles cover. The title of the tape was actually a spelling mistake. The name of the album was supposed to be Underwater Harmonies not Harmonis. However Harmonis is just as odd so it was kept.

Paxum was only mentioned in the Brantford Expositor February 17th 1995, and in one article from Humpin' In The Back Room 'Zine, Issue #6 because they didn't play the show.
