Chicano History: 4,000 years of Indigenous Mexican Civilizations

Learning our history.

Heroes

Anahuac Heroes

Woman speaking   Here is a list of some of our Anahuac heroes
[Anahuac is our Indigenous name for the land from Aztlan to Mexico to Costa Rica] .
Please research them for yourself (while this page is under development):

  • Xolotl (Chichimec-Toltec, instrumental in getting his people to adopt the civilized ways of the Toltecs.)

  • Ce Acatl Tolpiltzin Quetzalcoatl (Toltec Priest-Ruler, the man who is mistaken for the "White God Myth". He was a highly enlightened man, not a god. He stands for the reutrn of enlightenment (sacred color= White), not White people!)

  • Huemac (Last Toltec ruler)

  • Huitzilopochtli (Early Aztec tribe leader)

  • Citlalmina (Mexica heroine, she took up arms ready to fight with other women against the oppressive tyrant of Atzcapozalco)

  • Cuauthemoc (Mexica Tlatoani, just 19 years old, fought to the end against the Spaniards.) assassinated

  • Tlacaelel (Mexica Cihuacoatl, aka Aztec Interior Affairs Minister. A behind-the-scenes philosopher-ruler instrumental in reformulating our history and setting standards of courageous behavior for us to follow.)

  • Itzcoatl (Mexica, the "Obsidian Serpent", who lived up to his name. A great conquerer )

  • Nezahualcoyotl (Mexica, ruler of Texcoco, an ally of the Mexica, and a giant among Mexican poets. )

  • Ahuitzotl (Mexica, the greatest conquerer of the Mexica-Aztecs, the greatest ass-kicker of them all.)

  • Motecuzhoma Ilhuicamina (Mexica, elderly ruler who conquered)

  • Cuitlahuac (Mexica, brother of Motecuzhoma who formed a rebellion against the Spanish Terrorists.)

  • Pope (poh-pay) (Tewa Pueblo medicine man; led the killings of about 400 abusive Spanish missionaries and colonists and drove the other Spaniards south to El Paso, Texas )

  • Emiliano Zapata (Morelos, Mexico, the General of the South who rose up and led a war against the rich criollos who exploited his Indigenous people.) assassinated

  • Joaquin Murieta (California, Aztlan) assassinated

  • Juan Cortina (Texas, Aztlan) assassinated

  • Rigoberta Menchu (Guatemala)

  • Frida Kahlo (Mexico, artist who also wrote in Nahuatl)

  • Reyes Tijerina (New Mexico Chicano, demanded land rights, took action)

  • Digna Ochoa (Guerrero, Mexico) recently assassinated

Plus, there are thousands more heroes that are unnamed:

  • the warriors (both male and female) in the battles to defend Tenochtitlan (1521)
  • Zapatistas then (the Mexican Civil War - misnamed the Revolution)
  • Zapatistas now (EZLN, Chiapas supporters)
  • those who participated in the Chicano Movement - and didn't turn vendido
  • those who are active in the present to get our people out of the mind-enslaving Hispanic/Latino/Mestizo/Raza agenda (both in Aztlan and in Mexico).
  • In 1968 African American and Chicana/o students demanded that the California State University Northridge recruit more minority faculty, establish programs that would meet the needs of these students, and provide the necessary support services so that they would succeed and graduate. They took over the Administration Building, took hostages, presented a series of demands to the President of the university, and were arrested.

It should be noted that White students did the same things at colleges in the 1960's (for their own agendas) and are considered heroes. So should our people be considered heroic as well.

Note: Cesar Chavez was a major historical figure in labor organizing against oppressive ranchers. His contributions must always be remembered. However, he employed European religion as an emotional symbol and rallying point for Mexicans. This religious straightjacket of Europe is a major means of psychological enslavement of our people to European and Euro American interests. We stay poor and uninfluential, they stay rich and in control of our lives. De-colonize your mind!

Of course, some mention must be made of Jose Angel Gutierrez. He was able to demonstarte the importance of Chicano poitical power through bloc voting, however his Raza Unida ambitions (though of good intentions) focused us in the direction of identifying with Spanish ancestry that has long been gone. He is now a member of the Democratic Party. Fortunately, he rejects the "Hispanic" label and declares himself a Chicano.
