We can live 300 years !

If these tasks are not to be accomplished too late, we need an enormous increase in knowledge. This is not achievable without extending the human lifespan. These five tasks, taken together, are too difficult for earlier procedures and solutions. That's why it is essential that we channel more of the financial and technical resources of Earth into medicine and genetics. Extension of human life by two hundred years is possible (in the animal kingdom, sharks, alligators and other can live forever, there is no lifespan limit for them) but it means that a great deal of work is to be done to prepare us morally, psychologically, economically, sociologically, legally and organizationally for the changes to come. The process of change should take place on two levels: on the level of state and international institutions (e.g., the United Nations); and as the spontaneous movement of the Internet-connected inhabitants of the Blue Planet.

However, numerous and often tragic divisions hinder our understanding on this second level. That´s why we need an idea that can unite people despite these divisions by offering a positive, optimistic, moral vision of the future, of tolerance and cooperation between different people. This vision must appeal to the hearts of millions from different countries and turn strangers at once into friends on the basis of common knowledge. Isaac Asimov proposed such a vision in his famous "Letter to the Next Generation." We find this vision exemplified in Star Trek. Even if The United Federation of Planets and Starfleet are not known to all, and even if not everyone is equally enthusiastic about it, millions all over the world are. The vision of Star Trek is accessible to all people independent of religion, skin color, riches, sex, or country. Let´s form the movement that will realize this deeply humanistic vision. EU. Extension of life will come either way. However, it can come in twenty years, or in fifty; as the result of the democratic movement of the majority, or as an instrument of the dominion of a minority which is ready to abuse its economical and political power. If the outcome is the latter, humankind will split into slaves, or lower classes (with short life and little knowledge) and an upper class (with long life, and great knowledge). Homo sapiens have shown in history that it is quite capable of doing so.
A society which accepts the misery and suffering of homelessness and unemployment as inevitable in advance can avoid the dictatorship with the biological means only by accident.

Only in the long run will accumulation of knowledge by scientists, economists, engineers, technicians, chemists, moralists, philosophers, politicians, and so on, offer solutions to problems which will appear in the short run with increase of the Earth´s population. The Third World War Changes connected with the extension of the human lifespan increase the danger from numerous men who are very intelligent and strong-willed, but emotionally handicapped. Such men want only money and power, to hold sway over others and manipulate them. Only power-based relationships give them a feeling of safety. They don´t know what to do with friendship, love, empathy, and other deeper emotions, but their emotional abnormality is usually noticed too late. The issue of emotional development level of the personality is a decisive one for our future.

The Longevity Page. Extension of human life is easier than many think. All human genes will be deciphered--producing a "gene map", and much more--in ten years, and research worldwide will be greater than in the last 2500 years (prognosis of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). Everything will be possible soon thereafter. The only difficulty lies in understanding that it is possible and good, though very dangerous. It has been easier to understand that the Earth is not flat, than to understand what is about to happen. Our chance is that there have never been so many people in history who are conscious of the development process of their own species. The Prof. Dr. Michal Jazwinski´s research is one of many examples of the study of the "genes that determine longevity."

UNO. The extension of human lifespan means, in consequence, that the human race, as we know it, as it has developed in millions years of evolution, will disappear in the twenty-first century. The difference in quality of life between a man who lives 100 years, and one who lives 300 years, will be great enough to support such a conclusion.
