Mobiline outlasts Shell in overtime
Dudot Jaworski is visible nowadays. The 6-2 forward who
used to be the No. 12 man in Gordon's roster is now a surprise
starter in the Gin Boars' first two matches this season.
"Wala namang favoritism," said assistant coach Rino Salazar.
"Talagang lahat ay may tsansa to prove themselves."
According to Salazar, the squad's first five is still under
experiment and other innovations are being mulled.
In fact, time might come when the younger Jaworski would
become an offensive option.
"Binibigyan muna namin siya (Jaworski Jr.) ng chance to get the
feel of the game," remarked Salazar on when the former Ateneo
Blue Eagle would be given license to shoot. "Galing kasi siya sa
injury at medyo overweight pa."
During the Boars' season-opener against Formula Shell,
Jaworski Jr. commited four quick fouls in the first period and
failed to score a single point.
Dodot improved a bit in Gordon's win over San Miguel Beer a
couple of days back. He scored a career-high tying three points
on a 1 of 5 shooting from the floor. More importantly however,
Jaworski Jr. managed to pass off three assists and was a
respectable presence on the defensive end in fourteen minutes of
action.
There was a time when the Barangay Ginebra would heckle
Jaworski Jr. Now, not a few Gordon's die hard even believe that
Dodot is a "lucky charm" for the La Tondena franchise.
Gordon's has won two matches in as many starts, the first time in
six years that the Gins went 2-0 to start a season.
And soon fans might be treated again to a spectacle of Dodot
being fielded together with his father, 50-year old Gordon's
playing coach Robert Jaworski, Sr. on the hardcourt at the same
time.
"Darating yan pero inuunti-unti pa muna," quipped Salazar. -NOEL L. RODRIGUEZ
