Horses are attracted to electricity. If you walk a horse over an electircal cord, they'll die instantly! NEVER walk a horse over an electircal cord no matter what! You never know if it could be plugged in! They're also very attracted to lightning, so if it starts to lightning and you're on your horse, head inside IMMEDIATELY!
If a horse's ears are back, he's angry! Stay away!
When you walk behind a horse, walk up against their behind, never walk a few feet out because they can kick you.
Cause your ideas to become your horses ideas, but understand his ideas first.
Never go up to a strange horse and pet it. It could bite you! Always ask the owner before you pet the horse!
To err is human, but to blame the horse is even more human!
If your horse is licking his lips, he's digesting a thought.
To cause is to be as gentle as you can but as firm as necessary. When and if you become firm, don't do it to being mean or mad. When you are gentle, do it without being a sissy.
Can you get firm without getting mean or mad???
Don't break any promises to your horse!
Put your horse away like he's your best fishing rod.
Do it FOR the horse, not TO him!
Don't get mad, get even by taking a fresh start
Severe bits, martingales, and tie-downs are good excuses for bad hands and not enough knowledge.
The horse doesn't care how much you know until he knows how much you care!
Allow your horse time do digest your thoughts.
The technique is not important;it is the respect that follows that matters.
Never feed your horse directly before exercise-allow up to 2 hours for digestion.
Your horse can only be as brave as you are!
Never feed your horse immediately after you work them-allow an hour for the horse to recover.
Feed your horse at the same times each day.
Never stand directly in front or behind a horse!
Never leave a horse for longer than 8 hours without food.
Never crawl under a horse's belly!
Never try to clip a wet or dirty horse!
During clipping, clean and oil the blades every 10-15 minutes.
If your horse is nervous when you clip him, rub him with the clippers all over his body until he calms down. Then try to clip him again.
Don't leave braids or rubber bands in a horse's mane or tail for more than 2 days!
