Dr Bob Smith

welcome to...

...a personal odyssey!

Studies of Asia in Australian schools are underpinned by the following document: Studies of Asia: A Statement for Australian Schools. (2nd Edition)

It provides a framework for teaching and learning about the nations and cultures of Asia and, in particular, suggests the following learning emphases.

  • Developing concepts of Asia
  • Challenging stereotypes
  • Being informed about contemporary issues
  • Understanding contributions made by the peoples of Asia to the world
  • Considering the likely implicatios of closer Asia-Australia relationships.
The 'Statement' insists that 'Aspects of studies of Asia should be incorporated into existing course content across the curriculum. All students should have the opportunity ot experience some Asia-related learning'. (p 10)
