2020-2100
2027 - completion of the world's first cure for aids, price of the cure rises to more than the price of a high-price european car.
2035 - introduction of the first high-power battery-operated pistols and rifle by Ares technology. The laser could cut through 1" of thick steel per shot, but had the problem of a long cool-down cycle. average pistol had 30 shots and rifle 20 shots per new energy cell.
2036 - Introduction of room-tempurature superconductors, computers are created that can compute trillions of calculations per second, RTS applied to energy companies, allowing them to reduce costs of energy to thier lowest levels since the introduction of electricity. Introduction of fully electric-powered cars. Fossil fuels begin being phased out for much easier to obtain electicity.
2037 - Ares introduced new hybrid laser pistol, uses room-tempurature superconductors to allow the pistol/rifles to be fired at an improved rate. battery technology improves, energy cells now provide an additional 5 shots per weapons (35 for pistol, 25 for rifle.)
2038 - Maclaren introduces the F5, the world's first electric-only supercar... has a 0 - 60 speed of 1 second. Most car manufacturers discontinue production of gasoline-based automobiles due to high profit from electrically-based cars (easily 50% more profit)
2039 - Browning introduces it's first energy- based weapon, the Browning E-19 fully automatic laser rifle. This rifle shoots at a rate of 20 laser shots per second. Energy cell was bulky but provided enough power for 20 seconds of full auto fire. capable of penetrating 1/8th of an inch of steel from 100', it had the notable problem of being somewhat unreliable in the field.
2042 – First outbreaks of an unknown strain of virus in Africa and parts of asia, symptoms include dementia and aggressive outburst. No cure was known, and death usually came within 48 hours if not killed by other methods. The virus was noted to be highly contagious and cross-species, infecting cows and other livestock as easily as humans.
2050 - Completion of Fusion power, incredibly powerful energy but was incredibly unstable.
2056 – First miniaturized fusion reactor created and installed in the US Washington-class tank, the first of it’s kind in the world.
2059 – Introduction of the Hermes-class mech in Japan, the first military legged platform. Consisting of a small scale nuclear reactor and a few lasers attached to the makeshift frame it was noted to be fast and made a decent anti-vehicle weapon, if it’s armor was only a bit thicker than paper.
2060 – Hermes mech, though speedy, received a much welcomed upgrade, the first plasma-porting jump system, allowing the mech to “leap” short distances.
2063 – Refinements to the Hermes chassis yield the Stingray mech, featuring a humanoid torso and fully articulate hands this 20 ton mech would become popular as a construction and cargo mech in the future.
Introduction of the military-specific “Dante” mech chassis. At just over 50 tons, it was twice as heavy as the current hermes and Stingray chassis, but also features the ability to carry an external hand-held weapon and mount several hardpoints on the shoulders and body.
2064 – Introduction of the “Rapier” personal combat ship. Consisting of a large fusion plant mounted on a relatively small body, it was the first true combat space fighter known for it’s impressive speed and maneuverability than it’s firepower.
Russia releases it’s ill-fated “Comrade” class mech, essentially their heaviest tank chassis stuck on a pair of legs. Only 100 made it to production as it was soon found that the design contained so many vulnerabilities that it was unfit for service. The big incident citing this was the “Babooshka” revolt, where a single handgun destroyed the 100 ton behemoth.
2075 – Introduction of the “Apollo” class space cruisers. The Apollo cruisers are mammoth compared to the venerable Rapier chassis. The Apollo cruiser was notably a science vessel with the ability to travel to the far reaches of our solar system, but no methods have been created to keep their crew from dying of old age.
2087 – Because of the increase in space superiority, the United Nations develops the Star Wars defense systems. Most of the defenses consisted of small space stations orbiting above the country who owns them, mounted with fusion powered high intensity lasers. The star wars platform created an effective barrier to space-incursions into continent-held no-fly zones.
2100 - 2180
2100 - Completion of Fission technology, just as powerful as fusion but was not as unstable. Fission reactors use hydrogen and oxygen to produce energy and excess water. Fission reactors are also 1/4th of the size of their older fusion counterparts.
2101 – Japan capitalize on the new smaller fission engines to create the Ronin-class mech. The 75 ton behemoth carries a weapon payout much greater than the the Dante class mechs, and is the first chassis to carry the dreaded Gauss cannon and Fusion rifles. The Ronin mech gains it’s prestigious name thanks to Japan’s new movement back to a more basic style of living.
Upgrade reactors are made available to the Hermes and Dante class mechs, leading to increased speed and armor capacity. Unfortunately, most of these upgrades were the same price as newer mechs, so most old-tech mechs wound up in junk yards or in military surplus bases.
2103 – development starts on the first “Zeus” class spaceship, “Star of Hope”. It is designed to be the first spaceship to make use of the newly developed fission technology, and is noted to be a colonization/aggressive exploration ship.
2105 - Japan releases a press statement that it would introduce it’s now under development “Samurai” class mech to co-inside with their first attempt at aerial superiority, the “Dragon” class star fighter. The dragon is twice as large as the Rapier and carries a considerably larger payload, at the expense of being only really useful for ship defense and short distance fire support.
2110 - Completion of the Star of Hope, the world's first Fission powered spacecraft. Star of Hope was noted to be able to carry up to 50 rapier-class fighters, with the ability to link up with all previous starship designs, providing unusual flexibility in re-supplying and reinforcing.
The Dragon and Samurai fighter and mech are released, however, the samurai mech is much too heavy and expensive for all but the biggest militaries to afford, only 100 are produced in it’s lifetime. The dragon gains great popularity as a defense system for the newly developed Star of Hope and as a space station defense.
2113– Combined American and Russian scientists succeed for the first time in sending a living creature through faster than light travel. “Pogo” the monkey was the first living creature to break the light barrier, riding on a severly modified rapier fighter. Unfortunately, when the ship was recovered pogo was found crushed in his cute flight chair from the huge g-forces of slowing down from such huge speed.
2115 – After several failed attempts at safe faster than light travel, scientists develop stasis generators and cryo-sleep chambers. The statis fields allow essential crew to explore the ship during FTL travel without the massive g-forces from crushing their bodies, and cryo chambers provided a way for all crew to keep from aging during the long trip.
2116 – Rocketry makes an evolutionary leap forward, yielding missiles that can keep up with the unbelievable speed of the upgraded Rapier space craft. ICBM’s now have the ability to intelligently choose targets for maximum damage and are reduced in size to be retro-fitted to mobile mech platforms.
2120 - Russia launches it's first manned space transport to Alpha Centauri, the closest habitable star system from earth. Ship is expected to return in 2250 if colonization is not possible.
